Seems like since lil Nicky came to town LSU certainly has had more quality high NFL draft picks and I know Nick's approach was to guide them to the draft if they were probable 1st rounders....

so, it makes me wonder.... have any LSU players that were projected high draft picks returned to school somewhat unexpectedly?

I don't blame them for going... but I do love it when kids stay in school.... such as Manning at UT, Luck at Stanford, etc. when they clearly could go high in the NFL draft and cash their ticket.

Good call -- I had forgotten that one --- but YES a big "catch" for LSU to get him back... I remember it.

Laron Landry.... I don't recall where he was as a Jr.... no doubt a very good player, but I can't remember a lot of "1st round draft pick" talk at the time....

I dont recall, was Faulk ever thought of as a #1 pick? I mean, he's pretty much been a 3rd down back for 13 seasons.

How is Glen Dorsey not the last LSU big "star" to return?

The guy finished in the top 10 in the Hesiman voting and was a top 10 pick the following year in the draft.

No but he was a college star. An all american

Tim tebow was projected to go first round after his junior year but still made a huge splash when he announced he would return for his senior year because he was a star

I don't remember him being projected as a top 10 pick as a junior. He was AP and AFCA first team AA after 2006 - so, maybe I'm conflating his injury issue (I thought he got hurt late in 2006, as well as in 2007), or there were a number of DTs already in the draft.

I remember it being a question...maybe he always represented he was coming back, so it wasn't a big deal.

Maybe you're right man... memory is the second thing to go.

Yeah C. Black should be mentioned. He is a main example of striking while the iron is hot. Of you have a first round grade, you need to declare because the negative of what could happen far outweigh the positives

Tim Trbow was not projected as a first rounder at any time in his college career. Did you not see when Denver drafted him all te gems came out and said that he was no higher than 3 rd round on anyone's board. Everyone was shocked he was picked that high. Don't you remember that they brought in a qb coach to shorten up his delivery AFTER HIS JUNIOR YEAR?

I think its how the game has evolved. Because the salaries are so high in the NFL and the short time that most players have to play, there's no sense in waiting. Go play for as long as possible and then come back and get the rest of your degree if you want to or need it.

It was unheard of a long time ago, now its big news when someone doesn't leave early.
