When my son tries to play his Wii, the pointer jumps all over the screen without him moving the Wii remote. Sometimes the pointer just freezes up and won't do anything. I'm wondering if it's the sensor bar or the remote that is bad. Do you guys have any clue how to fix this or which one I should buy to fix it.

I would try re-syncing the remote. There should be a little red button on the remote underneath the battery cover and a little red button on the front of the wii by the SD card slot.

I forget the order you have to press them in, but I think you do the console button first and then the remote button. It should be in the instruction manual or a quick google search.

Depends on what kind of games you are looking for. It's not a bad system.

Yes it is. I have been a lifelong Nintendo fan. I have played every single Zelda game theyve ever made. I found Skyward Sword unplayable. The Wii sucks.

To the OP, what are your lighting conditions? If you have lamps or open windows (during the day) near his TV, those light sources may be causing interference.
If not, you can call Nintendo's support number and they'll troubleshoot with you. It could very well be a bad remote or a bad sensor.

I always found that if your sensor bar was not center and tilted straight forward flush with the television the cursor will begin to shake when it reached the edge of the screen. This fixed any problems I ever had with a cursor that flickered around.

This has been going on for at least six months. He just decided not to play it because he didn't know what was wrong with it. I'm on vacation and just trying to fix it for him. As far as lighting conditions go we don't have anything excessive. Just a light on the ceiling fan and we don't keep windows open. I may try their support number tomorrow. I have already tried to sync the Wii to the remote again and that didn't fix it.

The sensor bar doesn't really do much. It just has little sets of lights on both ends. If you take a picture or video tape it, you should see 2 or 4 little blue dots emitting from the bar. If those are not there, then that's probably the problem.

Otherwise, I would think its a remote issue. However, if you have multiple remotes, I would find it weird if they all did not work at that point I would chat with Nintendo support to see what they say.
