The orange juice thread got me thinking about a drink I've been enjoying since Thanksgiving...

I've been squeezing fresh satsumas - a lot of them - for the juice. I pour some good bourbon over rocks, add a dash of Fee Brothers Orange Bitters, then abt 2 oz. of satsuma juice. Delicious. I have tried with store bought OJ and it's really not that great.

what makes that a "winter cocktail" in your book?

fwiw, sounds pretty good. like that you add the bitters to cut the sweetness and sourness of the bourbon and juice.

This one is similar to my go to summer cocktail. Take Old Charter, add ice, splash of water. Repeat as desired.

Winter for me means bourbon and maybe scotch. Oranges are a winter fruit. Hence, winter cocktail. Summertime is more of a gin and vodka time for me.

Different seasons call for different libations.

My favorite scotch is Glenlivet 15. Aged french oak. Wow that stuff is so smooth.

Sounds pretty good. Might give this a whirl when I get back to the Windy City.

Irish car bombs until it just becomes you, by yourself, shooting half pint glasses of Jameson.

It is a matter of the difference of the sugar(s) in the two juices. The satsuma is natural stuff off the tree, the other is being "quality controlled" to meet a commercial standard of flavor.

Irish coffee but I tend to lean towards stouts and winter lagers during the cold months.
