How many of you hunt public land? I mainly hunt public land and I love to see public land kills. If you do go like public land mafia on facebook and show off some public land kills. Dont mention the WMA unless you want 2. I dont mention where I kill.

That's all I do now. Mostly at Bayou Cocodrie. I plan on setting up my camper this Friday and will hunt all next week.

Mung's public land 8 point,

Hunted public land my whole life. Pomme de Terre, Tunica, Sherburne, Loggy Bayou, Red River NWR just to name a few. Killed a small 6 on Loggy last weekend. Here's a link to that thread:

I hunted WMA's till my late 20's. Not here in Louisiana though. Hunted them in Tennessee and ARKY. I did have a lease in ARKY, but most of the guys I guided wanted to hunt timber thus we headed to the public land.

Yes, it is harder. BUT, I always looked at it as harder and I took more pride in kills. I firmly believe that hunting public quickens the learning curve since you have to adapt to different situations rather than hunting the same ole blind/lease day in and day out.

That buck makes it worth the trip. Do you use stands? I guess it would have to be a climber or something light enough to carry in and out.

Damn, I thought we were better looking than that.

Being a broke dick with a wife(now ex) and 3 kids, I really can't afford a lease. I sure could not afford a bow-only high dollar lease. Besides, I think i have almost as good a chance of getting old big at some of these NWRs where the gun hunting is limited.

We pack API climbers in and out. When I stay a week, like next week, I will leave a stand in there because it's a LONG walk, and I now feel like I was beaten with a 2X4 just from Saturday.

If we find somethign really good, like a few years ago, I'll leave a lock on in there. You are allowed to if you leave a card with your info on it.

This is why i always read the climber threads and am always looking to improve on my API. No luck in over 12 years of trying.

I hear ya. I have never been in a lease or club. I wouldn't hunt other than my FIL land. Not great for bucks as I've only seen two in five years but fun to bring the kids and get a couple of does a year.

So the WMA's are bow hunting only? I may look into them for next year.

I hunt the Tensas Refuge, but only because my private land butts up to it, and its better suited for bow hunting. Monster deer killed there every year, think the stat record was just killed there this season

Not really. Each one has it's own schedule of gun/primitive days.

I've duck hunted a couple times. I used to deer/duck hunt a place that is now apart of a WMA. I bought a house a little closer to where it is so I may look into trying to hunt it a little since I'm familiar with that particular place, then go exploring a little more. There are some studs walking WMAs in MS.
