is better?

Still trying to do the analysis on that. We've all stipulated their LBers are better, maybe even more than a little better - strongest position group for them and the foundation of Bama's team, along with TR. There is legitimate debate over the DL, but maybe homerism has me give the slight edge to us because we play a 4-3 and rotate 8 or 9 guys in who all play very well.

But secondary? Kirkpatrick and Barron made a bunch of AA lists, but Taylor, Reid and Simon as good or better than the rest of Bama's starting secondary.

Bama's secondary is better than LSU's? Really?

who's saying this? and are they mentioning Menzie when they do? because you should immediately dismiss them if they do (provided you haven't already).

There is no debate over the dline. We have far more sacks and Tfl while playing far better offenses.

The Gumps and media were saying leading up to the GOTC, and they're saying it now (some will call it "even" - objectively it should be no worse thatn "slight edge" to LSU).

Yeah, they do include Menzie which is ridiculous. He's about average for an SEC DB, but he's playing on a great team (and the same can be said for most of our LBers).

I give them credit for doing their jobs in a 3-4. Our DL is more productive, but again, we're playing 1 more and we're very deep. I'm willing to concede the DL is close to a pick 'em, though Bama doesn't really have a star on the level of Brockers, Mingo or Big Sam.

But, for people to say Bama's defense is better (based solely on their superior LB play, apparently), then, by extension that their secondary is better with no objective support for it.

I'm not sure I've seen a better secondary ever. we got 7 guys who are just badasses (or 6 and Loston, lol). and they can step into different spots (see TM at FS/ Mo at nickel vs. Arky), and just not miss a beat.

can anyone think of a better group of DBs? our 03 group was great, Miami's 01 and 02 units were up there too. all I got for the recent era.

Yeah i have a MS State fan who was giving me $hit b/4 the first game saying that Alabama's D was so much better than ours. So we did a positional breakdown...and when we got to DB's, he said it was no contest that Alabama had by far the best secondary in the country. His comment was they have 4 players in their secondary that will be drafted in the 1st round next year and you guys only have 1. I said, the reason our guys are not on that ESPN list that you are referring to is b/c our guys are sophomores!

After the game and with both of our corners receiving National awards...I think he has finally come around to how good our secondary is.

People forget how schedule strength factors into defensive stats. Not to mention the strength of the of the opponent's offense.

Alabama's schedule was full of punchless cupcakes. They padded their stats in a way our defense didn't get a chance to.

Not saying their defense isn't legit, it's just not better than ours, point blank.

Would he believe 2? Barron and Kirkpatrick - and Claiborne will go before either.

Lester? Good, but not 1st round good, IMO.

Upshaw is a small DLineman, no way he plays LB in the pros because he can't cover out the backfiled, he will be used like Washington uses Orakpo, to rush the QB, and here is the thing if LSU had a good QB passer, we would pick apart their secondary because none of their DB's cover well, but LSU guys are tremendous at covering.

LSU faced good offenses in Oregon, WVU, Arkansas, and UGA.

Alabama faced Arkansas. In your immortal words "OK who else??"

And torched them for 400 yds passing. OK. UGA is not that good of an offense. Maybe decent.

Thus the label "good offense".

Even if we accept that, the Bulldog's offense is several orders of magnitude better than any offense not named "Arkansas" on Alabama's schedule. And that was the fourth-best offense LSU faced.

AND??????????

It's pretty obvious evidence LSU's schedule was tougher.
