Migration HQ

Is anyone else feeling really uneasy based on these dismal reports coming from up in Arkansas and even Missouri?

Low duck numbers in the MS flyway, and bizarrely high numbers being reported in Oklahoma and Nebraska really have me concerned. Could the ducks have moved further West?

Seen this coming for some time now, SWLA is having the slowest numbers in years. This drought isnt helping.

Freind of mine's camp killed almost 1,000 birds first split, it's been great for them.

SE coast has been great too. Heck from what I have seen on here in the in the blind threads most people are doing well. Several from the Monroe area that are killing birds regularly.

AR and MS going to be tough this year, too much water.

Same thing happened two years ago to us in the MS Delta. Seemed like the flyway shifted west to Oklahoma and merged with the Central flyway.

I think the lack of water has changed this year substantially. All the brown ducks have gone to the coast where there is water and food since a lot of the early habitat was dry from Missouri southward. With the last two rains there suddenly is a ton of water in Arkansas spreading them out. Mallards haven't really pushed south in good numbers yet because it's been unseasonably warm in the upper midwest with no snow anywhere to speak of up there. I bet there will be some bird movement again on Saturday once the marsh in the West zone opens back up.

We're seeing a thousand plus most mornings we go South of Monroe... they just aren't stopping on us.

I've hunted Toledo a lot and I just can't believe there are more ducks over there. That's why I finally got on a lease in the East zone this year.

It seems like people have talked about this supposed "westward shift" since 2001-2002 when hunting slowed down considerably from the great run of the 90's. I personally think mojos have some blame for making ducks harder to work now and the huge harvest of 2000-2001. We have a place in SE Arkansas and that season killed 600+ ducks on the first 4 weekends. Been hunting a place in N Texas and there have been a lot of good hunts so far this season, but I don't think the patterns have shifted that substantially. There sure does seem to be a lot of pressure the last few years, and maybe what would do wonders would be a 30 or 45 day season to knock out some of the new hunters who throw a mojo out and sky blast all day long.

Definitely seeing a lot on the coast this year. Had a good first split, and good reports for this weekend.

OhFace, where did you find this information? I've looked before but haven't been able to find out where the information is posted.
