I am getting really tired of hearing all the crap about how Bama really beat us because of the total offense stats. Its All the Gumps and media wants to say.
Winning the total offense stats just isn't the way LSU wins. Four of the LSU victories this year alone have been over teams that had a greater total offense! OU, WVU, Bama and UGA.
I know in the last few years it is a very common occurrence.

I didn't realize yards weighed more than points. Weird

BAMA's coach and kicker failed. The rest of the BAMA team did put up slightly better stats. It is what it is. LSU beats them for all the marbles, and Nov 5th is no longer looked at that way.

If they want to talk about yards lets talk about yards in the second half.
LSU - 187
Gumps - 109

Playing with a short field will tend to do that.

I dont understand how this:

TOTAL OFFENSE YARDS........... 239 295

translates into such a convincing argument for Bama.

Total yards do not matter, that is why this is such a silly argument. Likewise, a ranking of offenses based on total yards does not actually tell you anything about the strength of the team. Red zone efficiency and stats like that are much more important IMHO. Bama and WVU may have gotten a ton of yards, but they didn't score. I'll let a team go from 20 to 20 every possession, if they can't kick field goals. They will have a ton of yards at the end of the game, but not usually win. Conversely, like in the UGA game, LSU had a drives of 17 yards and 23 yards to score touchdowns. Not much offensive production, from a pure total yards standpoint, but once LSU scored the touchdown from 23 yards out, everyone knew the game was over.
