Sweet! An article on our UPS local website featured Tyrann's dad. Can't post the link because it is for employees only, but very proud that the "Honey Badger" is a part of the UPS family.

Yep. He handles the French Quarter route. It's actually his uncle, but he basically is his adopted father.

Yep. My neighbor is his manager or supervisor. Everything he says about him leads me to believe the family is really good people.

After the SECCG, we went down to the area where the families and players can meet after the game...I got to talk to the Honey Badger's dad and brothers and cousin. Very nice people.

I copied the article for those who wanted to see it:

New Orleans package car driver Tyrone Mathieu is one proud papa

Louisiana State University cornerback and Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu is perhaps the most celebrated player on the nation’s number one college football team.

And, he’s also the son of Tyrone Mathieu — a Gulf South District package car driver.

“My advice for my son is to stay focused, stick with the process, and do what you always do naturally — go get that football,” said the 20-year UPSer pictured above.

Already named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press, Tyrann is one of five finalists for the prestigious Heisman Trophy, which will be presented this Saturday evening in New York City.

"This is a dream come true, and I am humbled by this honor,” Tyrann said. "It shows that hard work and persistence pay off.”

The "Honey Badger" led the LSU Tigers in tackles (70), forced fumbles (six), and fumble recoveries (five), and added two interceptions to his 2011 resume.

In addition to his defensive domination, Tyrann also had two sensational punt returns for scores in LSU’s final two games against Arkansas and Georgia, which likely secured his invitation to the Heisman ceremony.

LSU faces the University of Alabama for the national title on January 9 at the Superdome in Tyrann’s hometown of New Orleans.

Awesome. It's remarkable that he leads this defense in tackles in addition to everything else. Guy is amazing.

thanks for the link.

In their 20s, the Mathieus, who were already married, took in Tyrone's brother, Anthony, then 12, and raised him for the next decade. He's now 29 and a certified public accountant in Dallas.
About a decade later, in 1998, the Mathieu's took in Tyrone's young nephew, Tyrann, who is now 16 and still living with the family.
In 2001, a drunk driver killed his sister, single mom Trina Mathieu. The Mathieus took in one of Trina's two children, a daughter, Keviah. They have raised the her ever since; she's now 14.
Throughout the family's ordeals, Sheila Barnes Mathieu, 40, a registered nurse, never fussed, her husband told club members.
"She embraced. She loved. She educated and they all became our children," he said.
Then, he called to the podium the "strongest woman" he knew, the one who had been by his side since junior high.
That, he said, is the meaning of "One Love."
