It Never Rains in Tiger Stadium (the saying not the book)

Does anyone know where this originated? I have google searched and thanks to John Bradly all the results bring up the book.
The only thing I could find was about Dan Bourne saying "Chance of Rain - NEVER" and he says since he was a kid he always heard "it never rains in tiger stadium" and just went with it one night at TS.
So does anyone know where it originally came from?

Mike Linebacker coined it.

I hate when they say "chance of rain, never" when it's actually raining. I also don't get what's the big deal about the saying.

When I was at LSU in the 60s that was the "conventional wisdom".

It's because of afternoon showers in South Louisiana that almost always end before our usual 7 pm kick offs.

My dad told me that Tiger Stadium went for years without rain on a Saturday night. He attended every home game for 42 years starting after the '58 season. Then he missed a handful for various reasons.

While we're at it, LSU's purple and gold colors suck as well.

I always figured it had something to do with "Death Valley".
Death Valley, CA averages less than 2 inches of rainfall a year!

Not sure where the saying came from. It obviously is a metaphor of some kind, not involving actual rain..because during the S. Carolina game of 2007 there was an absolute downpour in TS.

And back then the kickoff was at 8pm.
They had a thread a few months back that the saying was "It Never Rains in Tiger Stadium...it Pours" when it does rain.
As for Dan Borne and the "Chance of Rain...Never"...the first time I heard that was in 2003, Opening game vs. UL-Monroe, the National Weather service was calling for a huge storm, You could see the front moving it...and it looked bad.
It kinda looked like this:
But worse...it was cool when he said it. And then a few minutes into the game...It poured.

He mustve missed the 88 game against Miami

In the 1970s, and probably for some period of time before, it seemed to be a very rare event for it to rain in Tiger Stadium at night. It seemed that sometimes it would rain all day before a game, but by game time the rain had stopped The common saying was, "it never rains in Tiger Stadium."
There were some rare games where it did rain, a game against Utah, I think, was cold and miserable and very wet, and remarkable for that.

I was one of the very few that stayed until the end of that game. No idea why. Worst game ever.

When I went to LSU in the 70s it was a common subject. I was told many times that it had been many years since it rained during a game in Tiger Stadium. There was a count. In 1980 or 82 the count was 38 years when it poured during the Tulane game. It's really funny because we were so used to it not raining that our dates would dress up in what today would be considered better than Sunday best and not worry. That all ended that game and, of course, it has rained fairly often since.

A long stretch of time from the 50s to the 70s when it never rained in the stadium during the game. No doubt the afternoon thunderstorm/night game dynamic played a role. There were times when it rained all day but stopped at game time (Utah was a good example). I remember one game when it rained over most of BR but not Tiger Stadium.
The streak ended in the Wyoming game in 1978. Last game of my senior year. I think we got 25 years worth of rain that night.

At games, when they say it on the speakers, I just go with it, but it was raining lightly in '09 for the Florida game at night.
Also, does anyone who plays NCAA 12 or any other college football game notice the inconceivable number of times it rains when you play in Tiger Stadium??? (as well as the number of day games, now that I think about it )
