Some of the posters who follow this more closely, what is your honest opinion on who we will get, if anyone? Will it ultimately turn out as a great deal for us?

Personally, the trade I like most from what I've seen on here is easily the Clippers one involving Gordon, Jordan, and Minnesota's #1 pick. We then get another potential superstar in this deep class such as Anthony Davis, Harrison Barnes...someone like that. That would be an absolute slam dunk trade for us imo

Clippers are somewhat reluctant to let Gordon go from what i've been hearing.
I'm hoping we can strike that deal or maybe the GS deal with Curry.

If we could get Curry, it'd make me feel a whole lot better. That kid is good and he is definitely someone that could become the face of the organization when CP3 leaves.

Every day the amount of teams that are pushing for him increases. Some team sources have come out and said flat out that they would trade for him without an extension.

There will be a bidding war. We will get a good deal.

Will we get a superstar back? No. But I think we will do well with young talent or picks etc.

It just depends on what Dell's plan is.

We can't judge it as a straight trade flat out. We have to see what other moves follow it.

i would LOVE to get Steph Curry.
I just don't understand why GS would let go of him? Sure he's not the pure PG Chris Paul is, but they wouldn't be making their team that much better by trading PG (cheap with crazy potential) for PG ($$$, best in the league, but sort of banged up). its an upgrade, but not that much of an upgrade.

it would make more sense if a team would give up a player that they have someone ready to replace that player at that position and maybe draft picks or something.

IF they could put together a lineup of:
PG: CP
SG: Ellis
SF: FA/Wright/Udoh
PF: Lee
C: Tyson

That could be pretty dangerous.

now this a perfect world scenario
it's going to be all about what the hornets want to take. The Clippers would move right now if we would accept it without Gordon, but Demps will try to squeeze him out.
As someone else said there are a few teams willing to trade without Paul signing the extension, Houston, Boston are two off the top of my head.

Best return is Gordon, Minnesota's unprotected 1st rounder from the Clippers + young, cheap players/old expirings. Go into tank mode. Hope we hit the jackpot in the lottery with 2 early picks in a loaded draft.

You don't have a superstar, you can't truly contend in the NBA. Only way NOLA gets one is the lottery

Demps almost got Ellis last year for the Hornets. Peja and MT5 for Ellis, but GS backed out last minute.

I'd be happy with a young player (Gordon, Jordon, Curry, Bynum) and a draft pick. That Clippers deal would be really nice. If I'm a GM of another team, I don't know why you would trade for Paul just for 66 games unless he signs that extension. Like why would GSW give up Curry for Paul without signing an extension (3-way trade time). Stranger things have happened though. In Demps I trust!!

Paul won't sign an extension because the new CBA screwed up extensions. You get more money and more years by becoming a free agent even if it's just to resign with your current team. That's a risk these GMs are just going to have to take.

The Warriors can flip Ellis for CP3 top 10 BFF Rudy Gay maybe even get OJ Mayo thrown in, and they've already talked to West presumably because of their interest in CP3. That team has BFF power and star power. It's a better team than Melo, Amare and scrubs.

CP3
Mayo
Gay
West
Lee

That team wouldn't make it to the conference finals. There is no way GS trades Curry unless they also land Howard or CP3 agrees to sign an extension. Of course, they have a better shot to do this than any other team currently.

frick gordon if it comes down to it. as long as we net that #1 and some decent pieces like bledsoe/aminu while unloading oakafor for kaman the trade would be DRIVEMAN APPROVED. we don't have a much leverage as some of y'all THINK.

just keep that odom/artest/gasol garbage out of here

The amount of leverage depends on two things.

1. The number of bidders
2. Paul's willingness to sign an extension

We've already got at least three teams willing to gamble on him refusing to extend, which are the Celtics, Mavericks, and Rockets.

Those offers will represent the floor of what we can get in a trade and will also be useful in leaning on Paul to extend if sent to a more desirable team.
