ESPN clamoured for an all SEC bcs game, knowing that the country would be outraged over a 2 SEC team game and demand a playoff. When a playoffs is formed, espn will get the rights to playoff games and they'll make 10x what they're making now from the BCS.

NBC will outbid them. Then I will laugh.

i just don't see how a playoff is formed under the current structure

even if the big east folds, essentially, there will be 5 BCS conferences

yeah but you won't get the 5 conferences to agree to THAT, either

i believe they would be all for it, i know the pac12 and big12 would have liked that system this season.

It's going to take the Big 10 or Pac-12 schools getting fricked over hard for the BCS title game for those conferences agree to a +1 system.

the SEC doubles up its playoff money and the ACC gets left out, though

i always hear that rose bowl unity theory tossed around, but i have never seen any quantifiable evidence supporting those conferences stances on the issue.

fwiw, i think the pac12 is much more aligned with the rose than the big10

but i think the pac12 is a different conference now

The only way youll see a playoff is if there ends up being 4 16 team conferences.

I don't neccessarily mean playoffs under the current structure. They could do away with the current bcs format.

Why wouldn't they agree to it if it's a seeded plus-one? It would solve all problems. It would solve the Oklahoma State problem this year. It would have solved the Auburn problem in 2004 and even the non-AQ problems would be solved, since TCU and Boise State have proven that it's not hard to get into the top four unless you have a schedule as weak as Houston's.

if a conference gets left out, they get no money

the ACC would be throwing a bitch fit right now

and i don't know how we resolve the pac12 champ issue. stanford would be going over oregon?

The ACC will never go for it now that they've gotten 2 teams in. The best chance was the Big12 folding and having 4-16 teamers with conf champs in a playoff.
