quote:

The champion of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, or the Western Athletic Conference will earn an automatic berth in a BCS bowl game if either:

A. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or,
B. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls.

No more than one such team from Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, and the Western Athletic Conference shall earn an automatic berth in any year. (Note: a second team may be eligible for at-large eligibility as noted below.) If two or more teams from those conferences satisfy the provisions for an automatic berth, then the team with the highest finish in the final BCS Standings will receive the automatic berth, and the remaining team or teams will be considered for at-large selection if it meets the criteria.

TCU currently at 18 with Mich State/Wisconsin certain to fall behind them, and potentially UGA and maybe even Houston or Kansas State. WVU is the highest ranked Big East team currently at 23

Why is this part of the rule without the stipulation also being that they take the place of that auto berth?

See, this is exactly why the BCS did not need to expand a couple of years ago...

Well, I would think that it would to be to honor the original historical tie-ins. I.e. guaranteeing that a SEC champion (in the event that they finished low in the rankings) would still go the Sugar bowl. Or Big 10/Pac-12 and the rose bowl.

Now you could argue in the Big East case that they don't really have a traditional tie-in to that concept and don't deserve to benefit from that rule.

Agreed. It's fine if it helps an undefeated CUSA team get in, but a 2-loss MWC team getting an auto-bid? Absurd.

I don't think TCU will get an at large

Why not? They need to move up 2 spots and 1 of the Big10 teams is basically guaranteed to fall behind them. If LSU beats UGA, then UGA should fall behind TCU as well

It's possible, but right now it's going to be between Michigan, KSU (if they win), and TCU.

But this is TCU. It's not like we're talking about Wyoming. And the reason they would get in is because they battled their way back into the top 16.

(I appreciate that they took down those fricking media darling Boise State Broncos )

They aren't an at-large, they'd be an automatic qualifier. A BCS bowl (that isn't the Rose) would be REQUIRED to take them if they move up to 16

and? TCU is no different than any other non-AQ school (until next season when they are in the Big 12)

Ok, I'm just gonna come right out and say it:

I have a TCU bias b/c they have actual history as a historical contending team from a (defunct) power conference, the fact that they claim 2 national titles (Boise Junior College has how many? D-IA only), have won that conference now 3 years running (Boise St. could not unseat them this year, payback is a bit...), and beat an AQ team in a BCS bowl. So me.

Darn it, i've revealed my opinion to other people now...

Understood, but I meant in that the voters will decide this. They'll re-evaluate and determine if they've earned it since they are 1-1 against their only legitimate competition and lost at home to SMU.

This isn't an at-large for TCU, this is an Automatic Bid.

Here's how the BCS Bowls will end up if TCU ranks in the top 16.

NCG-Lsu vs Bama
Fiesta-Okie Lite vs Stanford
Sugar- Michigan vs TCU
Rose- Wisconsin vs Oregon
Orange- Va Tech vs West Virginia

seriously doubt the voters want a 2 loss MWC team in a BCS game

What's the alternative? Drop them after they win today so we can get KState in a BCS game?
