I'm confused on how the school can make that decision? Isn't it up to the coach if wants to be a candidate or not?
ETA: I guess the Peterson could have told Boise that he didn't want to be a candidate, and they could have carried on his message.

I would read that to mean the school is UCLA has been told that Petersen will not be candidate.

Well just heard on ESPN that Peterson is on his way to UCLA, this was around 11cst. No word from Peterson as of yet.

UCLA is in trouble...Peterson obviously doesn't want a job where he is set up to fail. You wouldn't coach a team in Tuscaloosa or Baton Rouge not named Bama or LSU would you?

If Peterson doesn't talk to UCLA then I'm convinced he is waiting for Texas. Even if not this year but next. The Texas people down here love him and he is the only person I ever hear as possibly to replace Mack.

If you can't get a job at one of the top-tier AQ schools, you're probably better off at one of the elite non-AQ's, like Boise State or TCU. All three of Petersen's predecessors at Boise State are out of coaching now, as is Gary Patterson's predecessor at TCU. Urban Meyer succedded when he left Utah but he held out for a top-tier AQ job, not a second-rate one. If I was Petersen or Patterson, there would only be a dozen schools that I would consider going to. It's a lot easier to get a BCS bid at Boise State than it is at Mississippi State, Illinois, Texas Tech or UCLA.

Who is their QB next year? I would say he knows that his name is hotter now than it will be for the next year or two as he plugs in new talent.
