Are any of you taking the train to Atlanta?
Me and 3 friends are getting on in Slidell at 8:00ish tomorrow morning. Never done this before but always wanted to give it a try. I've heard that its always been fun in the past.

It's a bit of a ride, but the time I took it from NOLA to DC, found it very relaxing...

One train leaves Baton Rouge at 7:30 am going southbound at 18 mph. Another train leaves Essen at 7:55 am going northbound at 27 mph. Each train has to go 85 miles to reach their destination. Which train reaches their destination first.

One of my buddies is taking it from NO tomorrow and meeting me and another alum from Memphis at game. I'm sure the train will be loaded with fans heading to game. Should be a blast. I can't wait to hear about it Saturday.

I wanted to but no one else wanted to ride on a "train".

I had some UGA friends that did it for the Sugar Bowl several years ago. The train was packed with Dawg fans. They had a blast.

Good to hear....
We're planning on bring an ice chest on board so that we can have some drinks. Everything I've heard is that you can do this, but do any of you have any first hand information? I'd hate to get to the station and then not be allowed to bring it with me.

If they work like they do up here... It is incredibly worth it. I took one back to NYC from Philly it was the best decision I ever made.
Of course I think the NEC trains go a little faster, but it is still by far the most comfortable and efficient way to travel. The one I was on made the cars on the interstate look slow.

You can bring an ice chest on board... Me and a couple of friends took our kids to the Ole Piss game this year.. We stopped on the way to the train station to get a daiquiri.. We were a little worried about getting on the train w/ drinks.. Well we got to the Hammond Amtrak station and a crowd of Tiger fans were already there with 100 qt igloos fricking popping Don P like it was bottled water.. Before we got to Jackson, MS me and my kids were stepping over LSU fans passed out in the isle on the way to the dining car... To make a long story short you can't smashed ENJOY!!!!!

Having taken many a train:
- there are electrical outlets, charge your phone, see if anyone has internet on their pc/ipad
- bring your own booze, they don't search bags at all. Onboard food is terrible.
- don't arrrive early (or late), boaring takes 3mins. They check tickets on the train not before. There is no line, you just approach the big long train and pick a cart. The front of each ususually has an area where people can sit facing each other.
- lots of time with no internet on phone, do your TD.com checking when you hit metropolitan areas.
- bring big headphones (lots of background noise) watch a movie on your laptop.

$88 one way. I'm guessing similar coming back. Or, you can rent a room for an additional $181 per room.

It will take you forever, but will remind you of a simpler time, when travel was leisurely.
