I love this thread

Another character, like Jimmy, who often gets overlooked is old man Winter. He saves Kev, has a nice talk with him about his family in the church, and even punks the bad guys at the end.

So why did he let Kevin go on for years thinking such bad things about him? All it would've taken was a "Hi neighbor, how's it going?" once in a while instead of the satanic stare and creepy mannerisms he typically displayed. Him and Kev could've been friends for years if he would've just spoken up. It reminds me of a Ben Stiller movie where so much could be cleared up if he would've just done what any normal human would do. In this case, speak.

I don't understand the love for Home Alone...it's puerile cheese-ball slapstick movie with Culkin doing the same joke over and over and two normally good actors who sold their integrity in doing this movie.

There's A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Elf, Scrooged...hell, rent a John Hughes movie...

Any John Hughes movie > Home Alone. Toy Soldiers is better. Adventures in Baby Sitting is better. This could be a meme - things > than Home Alone.

Kevin also gave him parenting advice in the church and told him that he should reconcile with his son.

Kinda OT but I caught HA2 on ABC family or some channel like it, and they edited out the scene with the twin towers. It proved to me that the terrorists won.

Hughes's greatest commercial success came with Home Alone, a film he wrote and produced about a child accidentally left behind when his family goes away for Christmas, forcing him to protect himself and his house from a pair of inept burglars. Home Alone was the top grossing film of 1990, and remains the most successful live-action comedy of all time. His last film as a director was 1991's Curly Sue.

Forgive me as it has been awhile, but how large is Kevin's immediate family? We all remember the big debacle with the spilt milk and pizza dinner scene, but of all those kids how many siblings are his? I know Buzz lives in the house, but is it ever confirmed that he is in fact, Kevin's brother?

Buzz is certainly Kevin's brother since Uncle Frank's family is from Ohio and Kevin fricks up Buzz's room. I believe that Kevin's immediate family consists of his mother, father, two brother, and two sisters (total of five kids).

He wasn't afraid of the real cop that came to the door or thought he was a fake cop... He knew that if he let that cop in the secrets would eventually get exposed and he'd be furnace fodder.

This may explain why the rest of the family ignores Harry when he first arrives dressed as a cop.

I actually don't at all really. I stopped the film at the airport scene because I needed to get to bed and be at work the next morning (aka: right now). I really don't stop until 10:00 here this time.

......This is a John Hughes movie. Look at his filmography after Home Alone and get back to me on which is worse.

I'll tell you this much, that grocery store SUCKED. First, he has to plan out walking there and finding out what he needs. Not an easy task for anyone that age. So he finally goes to the grocery store and attempts to check out, likely feeling a sense of accomplishment. Lo and behold, the lady at the checkout looking at him as if he has a swastika tattooed on his face. Seriously, watch that part of the movie and check out the look she gives him. Okay, bad look, got to get over that, proceed to check out. She asks where his mother and father are. Not a friendly, "You doin' some shopping by yourself today?" No, it's blatantly asking where in the frick are your parents you stupid fricking kid. Then she asks about brothers and sisters. Let's get to the kicker: She asks him where he lives. Who in the frick is this lady to ask him where Kevin lives? You're a cashier at a grocery store, not a special ops military unit leader finding information on a suspected terrorist. Okay, so he's finally done with the interrogation and he has to walk him with groceries in the cold. Not only does the grocery store company hire employees with atrocious customer service skills, but they order their plastic bags from a cheap vendor. Kevin should have made a call to the Better Business Bureau

you forgot about the part where she felt it was necessary to question him about the way he spends his money when she has never met him before ever.

She picks up the Army men and is like "What the hell is a kid like you buying army men? What kind of prank are you trying to pull?"

Back off you slut... It's none of your business how he spends his money.

If we're going to overanalyze, I very much identified with Kevin's situation being the youngest of three brothers and having a huge family...the movie came out when I was around his age. I wanted that frickin BB gun too...

I also loved watching movies like angels with filthy souls when I was younger and my parents weren't around..

Basically everyone in the whole movie was creepy.

What was up with Frank wanting to leave a calling card being the "Wet Bandits". Doesn't that go a little beyond the seemingly perfect plotted-out in breaking and entering?

Maybe Frank is a little on the crazy side. If left to do what he wants, maybe he would reveal a much darker side. Do you think Harry kept his partner's sociopathic tendacies in check?

Now lets talk about the toothbrush scene.

I've never seen a toothbrush (besides the free toothbrushes the dentist may make you use if you immediately have to brush your teeth in the office) that wasnt ADA approved.

Second, what would make you automatically assume that by walking away from the counter, he must be tryiing to steal the toothbrush.

And why is Old Man Marley walking around with that serious of a cut on his hand.

It would have been awesome if in the opening scenes of HA2 a background TV would have had an easter egg or something like "Breaking News-Marley House raided- 24 bodies discovered in basement being stored in cans of salt."

Make it subtle and not really something you notice unless you look for it.

In HA2 Kevin pulled out a family photo from his dad's wallet. Let me see if I can get you a screen shot.

ETA: I think his siblings were Linnie, Megan, Jeff, and Buzz

Really its just almost incoherent ramblings right now to where I don't think its in good form right now to release (maybe aside from one section on what the hell Pesci and the entire family were thinking about a cop being in the house and ignoring him). It will probably be another week before I'm able to get through the film in its entirety (only made it 20 minutes last night), to where hopefully the analysis will be better as a result.

I understand. In the meantime I'll watch both movies about 5 times so I can contribute more to the thread.

How about Home Alone 2 when they try to grab him outside of Duncan's. There's a fricking child screaming at the top of his lungs at two men who then proceed to chase him and no one thinks to intervene. They stop for a second to see where the noise is coming from then just continue on with their day.
