I can barely look at Toonces for more than a few minutes. I really do doubt people's love for LSU by the amount of Toonces gear they own and choose to wear.

I had to sit my grandmother down and explain to her what Toonces was because she asked why I didn't have a Class Ring.

I feel for you. I had to shop around for all my graduation stuff that didn't have toonces on it.

I know this may sound a little weird, but I have my mom and aunt professionally stitch the old logos and designs on dri-fit for my LSU attire. I wish LSU would cough up the money to do a simple test on which would sell better in a uncontrolled experiment.

I'm sure tHatLSUBOY has a toonces tattoo but the symbol is just too desperate and goofy for me to like as the official logo of my alma mater.

I also am willing to admit that I buy anything with LSU on it so it is unfair for me to have to weed out LSU stuff with the toonces stuff on it. /rant 4

Helmet Mike roars, Toonces meows.

I am not gonna let this got my BP up. Ithink the previous petition was the only online petition I ever signed.

I received the following response after e-mailing the LSU Trademark Licensing my opinion on Toonces:

quote:

LSU truly appreciates your comments about the brand identity that was released in July, 2002. Over the last eight years, LSU has received both positive and negative comments concerning the new logos. Overall, the University is very pleased with its visual identity, as it has served to effectively promote and expand LSUs brand throughout the national landscape over the last 8 years.

I have attached the current LSU art sheet so you can reference the current brand identity of the University. Through the brand identity process, LSU created a family of logos, whereby the primary mark can be broken up into individual elements/marks. Due to this fact, some fans have gravitated towards the new LSU wordmarks, while others really like other the new Tiger head that was created. There are now over a dozen marks to choose from that are used to represent LSU, and many of these marks contain elements that resemble the other. This is an outstanding feature that makes these marks unique, and adds to the long term value of the marks.

LSU has also seen a significant response from the fans with regard to LSUs brand identity relative to the products' success in the retail marketplace. In FY 2009-2010, LSU generated nearly $5 million in gross royalties from the sale of officially licensed LSU products. This figure represents a 481% increase when compared to FY 2001-2002. In the 8 years since the brand identity was released in July, 2002, LSU has generated $26.8 million in gross royalties. To put that in perspective, LSU generated $7.2 in gross royalties from the years 1981-2002.

In an effort to provide fans with a broader selection of LSU products, the University participates in the College Vault program (www.collegevault.com), a collection of vintage products which enables select licensees to use the classic and historical LSU logos that are shown on the attached College Vault art sheet. The College Vault contains the images and logos exhumed from the collegiate archives which have now contributed to the creation of unique vintage-inspired clothing and accessories. The brand assures consumers that such items are officially approved and authenticated by colleges, universities, football bowl games, the NCAA, and other collegiate institutions. I recommend you visit local retailers such as the LSU Bookstore, the LSU SportShop, and many other retailers listed on www.LSU.com to find products that are currently available within the LSU College Vault program.

Thank you once again for your continued support of LSU. LSU appreciates your passion as a Tiger fan. Have a great day.

That is the standard response I would expect, especially with their figures argument. Thanks for sharing.

The numbers argument is their only case because it justifies to themselves that they made the "correct" call. But it isn't that surprising considering how many new fans we picked up during our baseball, basketball and football success over the past decade****

Football success has ALOT to do with that. Expansion and turning LSU football into a powerhouse is what happened. Just because they have an increase in merchandise sales, doesn't justify their logo is successful and representative of what the alumni and students want. Which brings me to my next point...

Who loves the new logo? I have not one time since 2004, talked to 1 person who likes Toonces or the new head logo. Not a single one. I would say the legitimate count over the years for me is around 740 (Counting M/F graduates, fans, players, coaches and other SEC fans.) ***Other SEC fans are embarrassed it is our symbol-thats bad.

If 80% of the fanbase liked it, along with the players, I would just swallow the pill and learn to love it. But.. since obviously this isn't the case, the best thing is to keep logs on the fire of hate for it until some sort of changes are made. At least let voting take place instead of force feeding some atrocious brand next to my name.

PS - Who did you email? Do you mind if I have the address? TIA

Why should Helmet Mike be vintage?

Why do no coaches wear Toonces?

How much Positive feedback have they gotten regarding Toonces?

I understand wanting different "marks" or whatever, but when you have to pick one for say the BCS Title Game, or, I dunno, a Heisman Finalist, what do we use.

Its not enough to just say you have to use the football tiger head. You need to use the Bert Jones era tiger head. It is so much cleaner.

not

Also thinking about how clean the Alabama "A" is what if we went with the Cholly Mac era "L"

Touche.

Which brings me to my next point.

The original tiger logo was drafted from the original Mike the Tiger (tradition). So what do they do? Hire a NY dork to make a cartoon to change our brand. Seems unjust and a fail on their part.

Also,

If any ranters want to add additional evidence or supporting information, I am going to write an email to them.

bert jones era for the win !

TD is the largest collection of LSU football fans on the web and we need to get behind a logo and change things. Where can I find suff with the bert jones log?

My gf who is a casual LSU fans likes toonces because she says "it looks like a panting kitty". Good enough reason to get rid of toonces and the gf.

The "Bert Jones Era" and the "Tiger Eye" are easily my favorites and the only ones that I would wear.

Has anyone noticed that grambling uses the football tiger head as well?
I wonder if this has contributed to the school getting away from it...
