I avoid buying anything with that confused, hesitant and/or intoxicated tiger on it.

I know they had a contract and were obligated for a number of years,

How exactly did Toonces lock himself into a contract "obligating" us for "a number of years"? What's his buyout?

LSU public relations and media personel think it was the one best logo designs ever because it has genertated the most money over any previous logo
It coming around the same time we started winning consistently had nothing to do with it?

I mean look at how crappy ours looks compared to every other logo on there. It just sucks

I love how the only ones you can't figure out at an instant glance are our's and Boise State's. Pretty fitting.

Thats because it was the logo during two national championship wins and a huge amount of success. People aren't buying LSU gear for the damn toonces, they buy it b/c LSU is relevant again, not just in football.

They undoubtedly know this...the whole spiel about it generating the most money is just the public response to combat complaints against the logo to save face.

I heard from someone I know in the athletic department that the logo in the OP, especially with the hurricane has been unofficial retired. I read on here once a similar story to what I heard first hand.

The logo with the head and the Geaux font is clearly not retired.

LSUs "image" has no consistency at all

I agree it sucks but this is why it needs to be phased out. You can't just change logos every few years; that's even more ridiculous. I'd prefer the "LSU" in geaux font to take it's place.

I see it every day: its on my ring. My roommate graduated the year before I did and got the old logo. They changed it on the rings in 06.

young black men who play basketball don't want some lame toonces logo

Thanks for your update on the status of "young, black men"

I'm sure that's exactly why highly touted recruits (which come in all variety of colors) don't play here...because of a tiger head on the side of the shorts...

...It's probably got nothing to do with the fact that we don't play for conference championships, national championships, or send many players to the NBA, or have a rich basketball tradition like oh say Duke, Carolina, Kentucky, UCLA, et. al.

Yeah, it's gotta be the shorts. We'd have gotten Harrison Barnes and Kyrie Irving for SURE if it wasn't for toonces...

The reason they use it, over the other ones, is cause they needed something copyrighted. None of the other logos are copyrighted so they have a hard time making money off them. That's the reasoning behind toonces.

think that was probably the best of all of them...imagine how weird/crappy the ones that didnt get approved must have been

As a designer with over 20 years experience and a graduate of the LSU design school, I can tell you that there is a good chance this wasn't the "best" design.

... and "Nike hates it?" Inside info? Link please?

I went to phoenix's website. They had these up there. If they changed the football helmets, someone would lose their job:
