Most of his comments are about the challenge of facing LSU Saturday but he threw in this tidbit I thought might be interdasting to this board.

Richt's Sunday Comments to the Media (free on Scout)

quote:

Q. Mark, when you look at LSU, obviously, they have a lot of kids from Louisiana. Have you all ever really tried to go in there and get some from over there? I guess my point is it seems very, very difficult to get guys from there.

COACH RICHT: You're not going to have much luck going to Louisiana and trying to get a great player out of there. It's just not going to happen. If it happens, it's not very often, and there may be something else going on where maybe the kid just moved to Louisiana maybe his junior, senior year something like that. If that kid grew up in Louisiana and he's a great one, it's going to be very difficult to get him out of there.

I still say there is enough talent in our great state to go around, LSU doesn't have room for everybody, I think we have enough for other schools. Hopefully we always get the ones the coaches want that make our program better.

That was a fantastic article. Although I am a die hard LSU guy, I like Mark Richt. He is a classy guy in a day of so many prick coaches; I'm looking at you Bobby Petrino. Thanks for posting it.

yea i was about to say. Richt was on some staffs that used to just to raid NOLA for the best

It was the cool thing to do to go to FSU or Miami, etc if you were in La. Now it's the cool thing to do to go to LSU

Didn't they get a highly recruited Safety out of Slidell/Salmen about five years ago?

There's always a few thug traitors that give Louisiana the finger on their way out of state and into oblivion.

Yes they did, but Donnan was the coach I believe. It's been probably 7 or 8 yrs. Terrell Bearia(sp), S, from Salmen. Also, Demetric Evans, DT, Haynesville.

the grass is always greener elsewhere. georgia produces a ton of legit sec talent (we do very well there) and richt's recruiting #'s have been some of the best in the nation. they have gone thru a rough spell (like we did in '08 and '09) and it appears they are making a comeback. but to say we, a state of only 4 million people have a big advantage is bull shite. everyone recruits everywhere, esp in the southeast, and we lose our share of recruits to other schools. bama and auburn have done very well in louisiana and continue to recruit the state hard.

To be honest, this is so true. But think about it. Why would you want to go anywhere else? If you go to LSU and do well, you are set for life. If you go somewhere and then want to come home, you are marked forever. I hear this from salesmen all the time who lie if they did not go to LSU. Even if they played for Tulane, they lie about it. The folks in Louisiana have pride in their football team and they support folks who support the home team.

Keeping kids in the state of GA is not an easy task. Many people move to GA, more specifically Atlanta area, for jobs and bring their teams with them. Georgia has so many top teams that poach talent from GA. And lets face it GT is not a big threat to top talent in the state.
