In the history of the BSC - has any team been in the position LSU is in?

Serious question - where it just doesn't matter what happens in the championship game - we are in no matter what? I don't know about ya'll - but this just amazing to me. Maybe this has happened before.

No, but the B(C)S has not been around very long.

Was it really determined (or even speculated upon) before they lost to Kansas State, though? I don't recall that.

A better question would be has a team gone into a conference championship game knowing it could probably lose. Still, im pretty sure there was talk about that regarding OU in 03

no. everyone was trying to decide if they were the best team of all time and assumed OU would steam roll k-state. afterwards, people thought they would drop out until the BCS standings came out

and they were trying to decide if it would be LSU or USC to face them. based on the SOS, we were watching like a hawaii game and i want to say syracuse b/c SC had beaten them that year, if they were to lose, it would hurt SC's SOS enough to get the tigahs in after a big win over UGA

Any thought of Oklahoma losing in the Big 12 championship game in 03 would have been totally laughed off the stage. Remember, they were "the greatest team of all time". It absolutely stunned everyone.

But also regarding 03 (and different from now), there were 2 other teams then. Us and USC. None of which had played each other btw.

Difference now is that while Alabama is considered closer to us (before the championship games were played) than anyone was to Oklahoma, LSU and USC were both in the mix then. Nobody is near Alabama.

OU in 2003.

They got drilled by a 3-loss team and still went. If LSU gets skull-drug by 4 touchdowns like OU did I doubt they'd get to the title game. Relax, 'cause that ain't happenin'.

Yeah, but next year CLM will attempt to become the first team to win the MNC with 3 losses, just to keep it interesting, my friends.
