I suppose the early favorites are Spain, Germany and Holland.

I think this might be the year Germany gets over the hump. Spain will be really good, but their performance will all depend on their ability to get the correct balance, as they have a plethora of world class central players, and not enough players willing to stay wide. I think Holland can compete, but they need another player to rise to the occasion.

What do other people think? Who are your favorites? Darkhorses? Flops?

I think the final will be Holland v. Germany if the draw allows it. Germany to me is the best team in Europe at this moment. I think either Poland or Denmark will make a surprise run, really just more of a guess. Looking at the pots Im hoping for the group of death to be:

Spain
Germany
Portugal
France

Media seems to be jumping on the English bandwagon as well.

They'll do something to choke as always.

Winners: Fighting Cruyffs
Dark Horses: Three Nittany Lions (with the caveat that Capello takes Rooney and Gareth Barry is put out to pasture)
Failures: Port of Gulls

Recommendation: 16 posters - $10 each.

Each poster is assigned a team at random.

Final four teams get their $10 back. Winning nation takes the rest.

Germany has to be the favorite. Proximity to the dual host nations is going to be crucial.

Spain hasn't been the same since Jose Mourinho turned the Castilians against the Catalans again. Germany is a machine and they just wtfpwnd Holland.

I really think Spain's problem has to do with positioning. They have a glut of center midfielders and playmakers who cut in onto their strong foot, but they don't have wingers who hug the touchline, with Jesus Navas and Pedro the exceptions. They need more width to their game overall, and I expect that they will find it, though it will probably make some of the lesser players (Silva, Mata and probably Fabregas) less than happy.
