"It's almost like you walk into a garage sale and see a Picasso sitting in the corner, and nobody else really knows what it is," said Thomas McGaughey, LSU's special-teams coordinator. "So you sprint over there and grab it. That's what I did with Brad."

Nice!!
What a great story he is, would be awesome if he goes pro. Talk about an F you to that coach who cut him. Ok, I'll just go to America and amaze everybody.

you know this is going to sound crazy, but it has been said on here before, and it is difficult to conceptualize, but our best player on this team may indeed be the punter.

You are welcome. Good to read positive comments from national press. We have a great team and a very good school. Both are too often under-rated.

It sounds like his skill level exceeds even most NFL punters.
I'm guessing he goes to the NFL and someone will use a draft pick to grab him.

Great article!
quote:I KNEW IT! I said this well before the season started.
David Wing said the coaching staff had his son punt with his right foot to throw off Oregon, LSU's opponent in the season opener. Few people knew it at the time, but Brad Wing was just getting started.

The Wall Street Journal has been showing LSU some love this year.

Damn reading that article Wing has the opportunity to really change the way punting is thought of. I knew he was good but damn.

very doubtful, I have some aussie friends and they have nothing there that compares to big time college football.

what i don't understand is the value of having wing punt with his right foot to throw the oregon coaching staff off. what difference does it make, to an opposing coach, what foot the punter uses? i guess i'm dumb here, but it sounds like unnecessary fakery stuff.

Perhaps tendencies are different with each foot. Might affect how and where a team lines up for returns. Does the return man need to be deep or shallow. Does he drive his punts with accuracy, if so do we drop some upbacks to cover the sidelines. That kind of thing.

It's hard to call the punter that, but maybe the biggest game changer behind someone like Mathieu.
