The 10 best Lakeview restaurants?

We're going through the different parts of Metro New Orleans, giving our top ten restaurants in each. Yesterday, it was Metairie's top ten restaurants. Today, it's Lakeview. If Old Metairie is an extension of Uptown, a similar cord connects Lakeview with Metairie. Does that play out in its cuisine? Let's see.

10) Russell's Marina Grill - I'm going to level with you. Filling the #8, #9, and #10 slots was like pulling teeth. I like the community aspect of Russell's, but the food is nothing special. Everyone and they mutha go for breakfast, but I make a better breakfast in about three minutes. The nostalgia and atmosphere of the place bring people back, IMO.

9) Wasabi - It doesn't crack my top ten sushi restaurants in NOLA, but it comes close. If you're marooned in Lakeview without a car, it's an acceptable option, but it's not necessarily worth the drive.

8) Mondo - I've never done this on the Food Board before, but I am listing a place where I haven't been yet. It's a necessity for this list because who was I going to put on here? Regenelli's? It's Susan Spicer and that alone should put it on the list somewhere.

7) Lakeview Harbor - With all the new hamburger places opening up we see that even foodies are not immune to fads. Indeed, they may be more susceptible than any other group. But for every Cowbell and Company Burger burger, I still yearn for the backyard simplicity of a Lakeview Harbor burger.

6) Koz's - I like the seafood. It's reasonable. Reminds me a little of a Kenner seafood joint.

5) El Gato Negro - I much preferred Madrid when it was here. Madrid might have been #1 in Lakeview. El Gato Negro is decent Mexican that only finds itself on a top ten list because of limited options. The filet quesadilla is good.

4) Cafe Navarre - I've heard some call this area Mid-City, but I'll give it to Lakeview. If you want to talk about po-boy shops that fly under the radar, this flies a few feet off the ground. While the hoards flock to nearby Parkway, the quality at Cafe Navarre is not far behind.

3) The Steak Knife - They make a solid steak. Is it top five in the area? No, but it's close. But how hard is it to cook a piece of meat?

2) II Tony's - Reminds me of an upscale Mr. Ed's. Average age of diner: 60. The portion size has decreased since moving from Bucktown, but they serve some of the best lightly fried seafood in NOLA. The Creole Italian dishes are good, but overpriced.

1) Tony Angello's - I haven't been since the storm, but the Feed Me is good enough. I never had a bad or boring meal. It's a fun place to go with family and friends.
