Does anyone know if John Ferguson and Walter Hill are still living? JonestoHaMILton28-8 had posted earlier about vintage audio of LSU football games and someone had put up sone vintage audio of the 1972 LSU-Ole Miss football game where Jones threw to Brad Davis for the winning TD to beat the Johnny Rebs 17-16. I was at that game sitting right underneath the band and that audio brought chills to me. Just curious if Mr. Ferguson and Mr. Hill were still alive if anyone knew. WOW what some great announcers and reminded of even earlier years listening to LSU on WWL. Thanks in advance if anyone has the information.

Thanks so much. I really enjoyed listening to his play by play when I was younger and even enjoyed listening to his call over my headphones when at the game. Walter Hill provided excellent color commentary too. Thanks, certainly miss John Ferguson on the radio for all us older Tiger fans.

I grew up listening to them too. I think John Ferguson was also the voice of the New Orleans USFL team.

John Ferguson briefly did Saints play-by-play with Archie sometime in the early 1990's. That just didn't seem right.

Ferguson was the voice of my childhood. Hearing his voice on old recordings brings back a lot of nostalgia. That's probably why I love old tube radios so much... the character of the sound brings me back to those glorious days.

If I lived to be 800 years old, I would still have echoes in my head of John Ferguson calling out the exploits of Buddy Lee, Bert Jones, Andy Hamilton, Rusty Jackson, Cantrell, Casanova, etc.

His voice had great character, and his style was legendary.

LINK

In the early to mid-1970's, John Ferguson did LSU play-by-play on Saturday, and then did the Saints games on Sunday.

I believe Hawthorne took over LSU play-by-play in 1984 or 1985.

where is this ?

I was there as well, standing in the back of the south end zone for that play. Being 12 years old we could not see over the people in front of us. I remember my buddy saying, just look up at the crowd, we'll know.. Prettiest thing I ever did see was the whole south end zone jump and scream in unison.

John Ferguson will always be the voice of the Tigers to me

In 2003 or 2004 JohnFerguson was helping taf in fundraising and he had an office there. I met him then and he was a wonderful gentleman. We relived a few moments of lsu broadcasts and it was a real pleasure.

Mr Fergerson was orginally from the Shreveport area. He did LSU football, basketball and often the SEC basketball game of the week with his color analysis Joe "string music" Dean (former LSU ad) He also did Saints pre-season games and some of the USFL New Orleans games. Later he helped support TAF and other money raising projects for LSU. Had a velvet voice and was a true gentlemen. Yes, he was a WWII vet and he is one of the true treasures of LSU and the state of La. Meet him a few times, great man and his voice was a pleasure to listen to.

I was forunate to meet John Ferguson when i was a child. I remember handing him my ballcap for him to sign. I listened to many LSU games that he did from my little AM radio. Carlos Carson, Charles Alexander, 3-0 Bama loss... Great memories.

Was a junior in high school. I was sitting in the first row at about the 5 yard line on the southern portion of the West side. My friends were right there in the SE corner and got a birds eye view of the Davis catch.

Thanks for that link Smoke Green!!!

3 minutes left. Ole Miss ahead 16-10. Stopped them. They punt into the end zone.
I were there!!!!! Sitting in the North End zone watching it all from the back as it went away from us toward the south end zone. Davis caught the pass in the east corner of the south end zone. Right in front of the Ole Miss fans. There was an Ole Miss fan was sitting near us. Keep waving a damn little Rebel flag all game. When we scored...Russell Adam from Kaplan took a cigarette lighter and burnt the sum bitch right in the guys hand.
