I'm trying to decide on a fire pit for my back patio. I'm looking for suggestions on whether to go with a propane type or wood burning.

Thoughts? TIA.

Here is what I'm getting. You can cook on it too.

I want to get the Father In Law pit. They make these in Conroe Texas and will last a long time.

How much is the FIL pit?

Are worried about it rusting at all?

My in-laws have had one for about 5 years with no signs of rusting yet. These things are built like tanks. We are going their for Christmas and will bring one back home with me since they know who make them.

I think they go for around $500 or so. Not cheap, but very well made.

I would definitely go with wood. If you want to burn some propane, get some of these...

But a fire pit should be wood, IMHO. We had a chiminea in Colorado...

ANd those probably radiate heat a little better than a pit, but I think I prefer an open pit for just sitting around.

Wood unless you have limited space to store wood or getting wood is a problem.

We used one of the ones from Northern Tool last weekend on a BSA campout and it worked fine. We had some hot fires in it all weekend, (breakfast, dinner and late night). Wood for sure.

When I grew up we had a ring from an old skidder rim for years. You could put a dozen people around that big arse pit.
