holdups with the collegiate licensing process and LSU Board of Supervisors approval are keeping Tin Roof from using the LSU or the “Bandit Blonde” name for now, said William McGehee, a Tin Roof cofounder and LSU graduate.

I remember thinking that there may be some issues with getting a university behind an alcoholic beverage. Just a shameless marketing ploy anyway. No big loss to those of us that like good beer, but still local beer news.

Isn't there already a LSU wine or two?

I think that's going overboard. They did have someone from LSU behind them (food science proffessor) that they talked and/or worked with. I think they'd rather release a blonde beer in hot weather, so they must have had high hopes (at minimum) that this would go through for them to push back canning timetable.

Idk, but they def have LSU licensed alcoholic paraphanalia (beer mugs & pints, wine glasses, flasks, shot glasses, liquor decanters, etc. I'd say licensing a beer is half a step up.

Yes, or maybe it's TAF branded?

The wine is from the Foundation I think, unsure what the difference would be but apparently there is one.

I am of the opinion that this is better for Tin Roof. I think that making a LSU beer would have forced them to only make that and not start to drive their own brands. While the money may not be rolling in as much, they can start developing the Tin Roof brand not add more to the LSU brand.

Maybe I'm just a bigger nerd about beer, but I just dont like the whole thing about a craft beer with the LSU name on it. It just rubs me the wrong way.

That's cool I understand that.

I read your post as if Tin Roof knew they weren't going to get the license but still claimed they would be making an lsu beer.

Understandable. I think we all recognize that it was a business decision and not a beer decision. Us beer nerds want craft breweries to make beer decisions and have the business follow along.

Agreed.

I don't think that canning a blonde in November is a beer decision either. NOLA and Tin Roof are guilty of this.

Nice.

Figured it was time to change the picture. Don't want to get into a discussion bad mouthing something and have it associated with the club.

I am pissed that I have to work late this evening.

For what it's worth... I've heard from a few people who have tried it, it's really good. They said as good as NOLA blonde.

I'm sure it is pretty good. It won a homebrew contest in Houston (which is a big contest), so it has to be fairly good.

The beer is still being released, so aside from not having LSU on the can, it's no big loss at all.
