He said this on the Tim Brando show today. Sorry I don't buy this. I certainly believe Saban helped make a culture change at LSU and delivered a National Championship team but I don't believe he is responsible for the program we have today, no way, no how

He brought us back up. He's responsible for that. He has nothing to do with the way that Coach Miles has managed to sustain it. Lots of people have built a program. Few have sustained it.

Les has this team on another level. the program is bigger than it has ever been. we have SO MUCH DEPTH it's retarded. i dont see any dropoff next year with Mettenberger (he could be a better QB than we have now)

Besides the fact that's not true, so what? He left for the NFL, LSU has proven the program is bigger than one coach.

Saban absolutely built LSU's program to what it is today. Conversely, Miles built Oklahoma State to what it is today. Either way, Miles is pretty damn good.

I'm guessing the Little Man was in no mood to put out after the game and Pauly is heartbroken.

From what I understand Skip Bergman hired Saban. Bergman built the program. I could be wrong.

Wrong, Les has 10 times the loyalty that Saban has. Do you really think Saban would have handled the fiasco of the quarterback issues with the character and moral fiber of Less, hell no. No Way

WE SHOULD PUT UP A STATUE

- It should glow.
- It should be firmly rooted because it represents a foundation. Maybe it's just a pulsing slab?
- We should also be able to purchase bricks or small plates to be bolted on to the statue.
- We should have a blood drive, not to raise money for the project, but to actually fill the casting mold with our blood to show how indebted we are to him.
- It should have a condom dispenser.
- It should be immediately named a historical landmark.
- He should be raising both legs to show that he died in battle. Might be hard to make a statue that way...maybe he's sitting in a wheelbarrow of cash or something?
- It should have a lookout tower and photo colonnade.
- Parts of it should be flavored.
- There should be refreshments nearby.
- We're going to need a lot of velvet rope. Those expanda-barriers look trashy and this is NOT trashy.
- We should start a living petition to make sure that he's never embroiled in a personal scandal, lest we suffer the embarrassment of having to destroy a monument to someone who is still living. It's the kind of risk worth taking, I think.

ETA: "died in battle" is rhetorical. It's a euphemism for "left Capital One Bowl in a different plane."

I think you have to give Saban Credit where it is due, but is the team this good because of Saban? No. Les Miles has done' more than his fair share maintaining it, and in my opinion even elevating it. We were a little streaky under Saban. Les has us at a high level. Said it all along, 08, 09 were the exceptions not the rule.

"Setting the foundation" and "building the program" are two vastly different phrases, and I'm not surprised a man of Finebaum's intelligence level is confusing the two.

Saban built the program into what it was in December 2004. Nothing more, nothing less.

Les Miles was smart enough to come to a school where he didn't have to rebuild a program from scratch? GTFO.
