The commissioners of the Mountain West Conference, Conference USA and the Big East Conference will meet in New York, a commissioner source with knowledge of the meeting said.

The three conferences are considering the possibility of creating a nationwide football superconference of 28 to 32 teams, with the goal of gaining an automatic Bowl Championship Series qualifying bid, according to multiple reports.

The Mountain West and Conference USA have already agreed to a football association, starting in 2012 or 2013.

"We would figure out some way -- four divisions of seven teams each, a playoff and then a conference championship game -- to come up with the (automatic qualifier)," UNLV athletic director Jim Livengood said Tuesday of the plan, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Craig [Thompson, the MWC commissioner] and Britton [Banowsky, commissioner of C-USA] are going into this meeting in New York with one thing in mind, to make this happen with the Big East," Livengood said, according to the report.

This would be crazy. But it would also be a pretty cool little case study for a playoff. I'm not gonna lie, I'd watch the Big Mountain USA semis and finals.

The Big East's not going to be bringing much to the table at this point if West Virginia has bolted.

They've got an automatic BCS bid for now, but the chances of them keeping that will majorly decline now that Syracuse, Pitt, and West Virginia are all gone, as the remaining teams are mainly C-USA refugees.

That's why I think they may legitimately listen to the MWC/CUSA sales pitch.

I think this conference is awesome.

They should refuse to play out-of-conference against any BCS conferences unless they get two BCS bids.

So we are looking at a conference where the top teams right now would be #5 Boise St (8-0), # 18 Houston (7-0), # 23 Cincinnati (6-1), #25 Southern Miss (6-1). This conference would be better then the current Big East, CUSA or MWC. Add in up and coming SMU, South Florida, Central Florida and East Carolina. Interesting!! I wonder if BYU, Navy and Army would be involved?

1. Boise St vs 4. Southern Miss
2. Houston vs 3. Cincinnati

1. Boise St vs 2. Houston

Winner vs BCS

Tell me that at least isnt interesting?

I think four 7 team divisions where the winners played a playoff is interesting. You have to give these schools credit for being proactive and trying to adapt.

In what universe would it make sense for Army to be in the South and S. Florida to be in the North?

Looks like the MAC, WAC, and Sun Belt will be set for OOC games for the next decade.

Why stop there? Why not make it 50 teams?

It would work best long term if all Non AQ schools were in this "conference". That way all teams would have a chance at a BCS game.

add in MAC, WAC, Sunbelt, and Independents. Set up 8 team regional divisions with 7 division games and 1-2 OOC games. They play their seasons and the last 2-3 weeks of their season is a BCS playoff.

The OOC games still give AQ teams rent-a-wins and give the smaller guys a few paydays on their schedule.
