Very simple, the "boys will be boys" and "remember when you were 18" argument is getting very old. It may work for suspensions 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the year. However, when suspensions 5, 6 ad 7 happen 2.5 weeks before our biggest game of the year, I, and I'm assuming many others, don't really find that to justify that type of behavior!

I was 18 once. Played college athletics as well. Never got arrested nor suspended from my team. I did have to run extra for being late for a 5:30 AM workout once.

Kinda of odd after reading on here that "everyone" makes mistakes.

:csb:

I'll bet you had a teammate or two who did, though. In any group, somebody is going to screw up on occasion. Not making excuses for anybody, just saying it's not unexpected or unusual.

so...suspensions and mistakes are ok as long as they don't interfere with a big game? gotcha. you are definitely on the right board.

i, too, played college athletics. i did get in trouble for "violating team rules". i understand but don't condone it. there is a bit of a maturation process. again, i'm not supporting the "crime", just saying it does happen, and i'm a great guy, by the way.

Probably not the case.

Doesn't make any difference if we agree with the specific rule or not.

Pretty sure if the NCAA bans excessive caffeine in an athlete's urine that synthetic pot also isn't allowed.

Man lsu has turned into crap when you recruit boys instead of young men making a way for themselves and having wonderful privlages. I am ashamed.

yeah this is the first year lsu has ever had players get suspended, ever. remember that time cecil collins went to jail for 15 years. remember that time larry foster got kicked of the team for aggravated burglary. remember that time damien james got kicked off the team for repeated violations. i could go on, but this is nothing new with lsu or any team in america. these type things happen. it will be ok

I'm trying really hard to not get drawn into all of the arguments over this issue, but...

I do remember having a teammate get suspended for a very similar sounding offense, but it was his first offense. And not another player on our team was ever suspended for it again in 5 years. This is all just sad, because we don't know how many players have been suspended before, Les does a great job at keeping much of this stuff out of the spotlight and he really protects his players, and it's extremely disappointing following the Shady's incident.

Just don't tell me that "Hey, everybody does it when they are 18." Cause that's not true.

Exactly.

When I was in Tiger Band, if you were late for practice (without a pre-approved excuse), even 1 minute, you did not march that weekend.

I marched every pre-game and halftime show for the 4 plus years I was in GBFTL. I did know people who were late - ONCE. They learned.

the phrase doesn't imply literally everyone committed a mistake when they were younger. It simply means that a large enough sampling of peoples would have at some point early in their life made a stupid mistake. I know, as the super android college athlete that you were, this is hard for you to understand.

No, but the phrase implies, "Hey, everybody makes multiple mistakes that leads to really big consequences that have your name all across national and local media for breaking the law and bringing a black eye to your team and head coach whom people have always said instills no team discipline."

Since you claim there is a sampling of peoples (and I assume this is just a sampling of athletes at major college programs like LSU and Stanford (as noted by your name). Would you please provide us this detail information of what exactly happens at those places.

Reggie Bush, by the way, was a kid that made a "mistake." What do many of those $C fans that idolized him in the 2004 and 2005 think of him now?

This post is not about one player in particular because on a team filled with 60 18-22 year olds, someone is obviously going to get into trouble. Its the fact that this is now the 7th suspension this year and it's starting to overshadow how talented the team truly is and thats what bothers me!
