I loathe the character Lou Holtz plays on television. I hate ESPN even more for allowing their college football coverage to become this total joke.

With that said, frick the SEC officials.

I want Holtz to retire. He's a fricking relic. I'm sure that some old timers like the continuity of having an octogenarian calling games, but the shite has gotten old.

Best conference in the country with some of the worst officials around.

I understand the rule, but this was a very bad interpretation.

For a long time, back in the days when we had basketball teams that competed on the national scene, it was most obvious in basketball, the disparity between the talent of the players and the officials. The last several years, as the SEC has owned the NC, it's more and more obvious how bad our official are. Never, ever call offensive holding, often don't know/understand the rules, call a bunch of BS penalties and don't even get started on all the alums of the schools where the SEC offices are located that officiate. Does the SEC pay poorly, or do they suffer from lack of training or low performance expectations?

frick this rule. I agree it is about football. Players get their socks knocked off every day in practice & when a punter makes a touchdown, for raising his arms on the 4 yrd. line the STUPID Ref's. call a foul. This would be a great con. if we could ever get good refs. like the rest of the country. They seem to get worse every year. :rimshot:

Lou Holz is seriously retarded. They should take his driving priviledges away.

Final Verdict

Does anyone actually enjoy watching these grown men act like they're elementary students pretending to be judges and attorneys?

No. But it's representative of how terrible ESPN's coverage of college football is. I love college football much more than the pro's, but the coverage for pro is so much better it's not even close.

Th conference office will do nothing about blown calls other than protect the guilty ref. Several years ago I had the opportunity to speak with a former SEC football official who said he retired earlier than he would have liked to because of the conference's indifference towards incompetent refs.

Slive is a joke to begin with so don't expect substantive change or even a verbal berate.

This.

I change the channels during the ESPN Halftime Show, and I haven't watched College Gameday Final since Lou Holtz became a part of the ESPN telecast.
