quote:

In Japan, young Jeff played baseball and made friends on and off the base.

“He was called the white Babe Ruth,” Goodwin said. “He said it felt kind of awkward because he was one of the bigger kids. But he liked everyone there and said everyone was nice to him.”

I suppose it's a cultural thing but the quote struck me as funny.

I was confused about the 4800 yards in only 8 games as a frehsman.. :/ Seems a bit farfetched seeing that his senior season he only had 1800

Think the 4800 was total yards from scrimmage. His offense in his senior year changed from a pro style to more of a spread, and his rushing yardage increased as a result.

He was rated #1 Pro and Spread QB by Scouts though.

Its precautionary. Brissett is probably the #2.

it says 4800 throwing lol. Either way it's some form of type.. Otherwise a 14 year old throwing for 600 yards a game playing varsity is simply amazing

Fwiw, my best friend coached against him at a rival school. He claims that he was not very good at baseball. So, I high doubt he would of gone in the first round as stated in the article. He had a cannon in the outfield, but that's it.

Yes, this has been bandied about since Ruth was playing. It was common for opponents to call him the n-word during every at-bat. And there is no doubt that he had some "Black features" (not only facially, but also his reported "abnormally large penis" ).

Was he half-black??? 25%??? Perhaps all White??? Who knows? But these accusations are not new or out of the blue - they began as soon as he hit the big leagues.

Ty Cobb relished every opportunity to call Ruth a gorilla (because of his nose) and all kinds of other racial epithets....
