So where are all the articles in the media about Spurrier's horrific clock management during South Carolina's last drive? Les Miles was crucified after the Ole Miss game a couple years ago, yet Spurrier's management yesterday was just as bad and there's nothing except for some saying the refs owe Spurrier extra time. Where were the articles saying we were owed extra time since we've all seen the videos showing Lafell coming down with 3-4 seconds left on the clock?

Why he didn't call TO with like 35 seconds to go, after they make the first down at about the 40, was completely mind boggling.

I said the same thing right when it happened. Even if they had put the extra 1 second up, they would not have had time to spike the ball and stop the clock. As we learned through repeated drilling of the media after our game, you can't spike the ball with 1 second left.

Suprised the 'Ol Ball Coach fumbled the clock...just goes to show that even the best, when working under time constrained pressure, goof-up.

USC didn't lose... they just ran out of time...

Actually it did surprise the crap out of me that they got the 1st down, and instead of "clocking" the ball -- called their TO.... leaving them 12 seconds and no TOs -- needing 7 - 10 yards and a FG to tie.....

So they make the yards and i thought a 1st down... but the clock runs out.

Yes the guy was down and over the 1st down marker --- but this is the same as LSU vs. Ole Miss .... no time to get FG team on the field ...

game over...

I thought they had a timeout, they didn't?

I e-mailed Stewart Mandel and asked about the double standard. I doubt he will respond.

when they made the 1st down with about 15 sec left Garcia wanted to clock it which was the right decision, but Spurrier used his last time out. It made absolutely no sense. If Garcia clocks it, it would have been 2nd down and SC would have had a time out left. Totally screwed up by Spurrier.

The difference is that the nation watched Les Miles blow the Ole Miss game. The nation does not watch South Carolina.

I doubt that we'll see the day when the media questions Steve Spurrier's game day coaching ability.

Spurrier gets the benefit of the doubt after crushing everyone in the SEC for 11 years while he was at UF.

I completely agree. It's not that Miles didn't deserve to get bad press for the end of the Ole Miss game 2 yrs ago and the UT game last year, he did. They were very bad. But, bad clock management that cost a team a chance win is bad clock management. You see this every Saturday, and yet the other coaches don't seem to be the butt of all ESPN jokes. Mark Richt is one of the worst offenders, but he certainly doesn't have the national reputation that Miles does. Mack "butter teeth" Brown almost cost the horns a spot in the National Championship game with his last second call against Nebraska.

I posted the same OP in the game thread on the SEC board last night-where are all the articles calling Stevie Superior Stupid? I kind of felt sorry for him, begging the refs for that last second to be put back. Maybe at his advanced age, he forgot for a moment where the league offices are. This was not a Mack Brown UTw giveback time.
