Trash Talk is Bullying...

I realize that some of these guys need to trash talk to get their adrenalin up, but it's going too far when it keeps drawing the attention of the TV announcers. It's just plain bullying and it's getting out of control.

When it's legitimate, it's bullying meant to further a team objective through psychological warfare.

Not a fan of trash talk myself, but I realize it's part of the game now. These guys do need to figure out when enough is enough before somebody gets a game-changing penalty.

I completely agree with you. Why should we try to exploit a psychological advantage over another team. Mental concentration plays no part in a receiver's assignments on the field. I wonder why the announcers even say, "He heard footsteps" when dropping an easy pass???

honestly when's the last time someone actually got a penalty for trash-talking? I don't think i've ever seen it happen.

It's not penalties that make it bad. It's the lack of focus and discipline that can sometimes ensue that makes it bad, as well as the image problem.
I'd prefer players not to do it, because I think at this level, any advantage trash talking confers is minimal at best, and the disadvantages of not having your head straight because you are spending too much time talking is not at all minimal.
