Has anyone hunted Bayou Meto in Arkansas?

Looking in the Arkansas Hunting Guidebook there are camping sites. Reading the info. seems to be alot of ducking hunting going on. Book said something about boat ramps, bringing boat prolly a good idea. You deer or duck hunting? I was talking to a guy this week that just joined a deer lease in that area, he was saying that area holds some of the better deer found in state. I am not too far from there post some reports if you go.

Bayou Meto WMA is a big arse tract of flooded timber. Some of the best duck hunting in the world, but it's public land hunting. Which can be a pain in the arse. I've never hunted it but know several people who have. When it's on they kill a lot of ducks.

I've never hunted it, but you will need to do some scouting prior to the season. I understand that you would be much better off with a boat. A mud motor isn't necessary here. You definately will need to get there early, I would say 4:00 would be the latest for that area.

+1...you will need to scout with a GPS to mark location prior to season IMO. You can get lost out there and you can induce a country arse kicking for riding up on someone that is already in their spot.

You need a boat, it is almost all flooded timber hunting.

When it is good, it is as good as any hunting, anywhere.

Echo Calls has a series of videos hunting almost nothing but Meto, Hurricane and White River bottom public land that is astounding.

I would recommend getting a guide the first time or two to get familiar with the land and the customs in the area. Not sure if they still allow guides on the public land however.

I prefer Felsenthal when the river is out and it's flooded. IMO it's more area and better hunting, but the river has to be out.

Bayou Meto doesn't require a river to be out, it's always flooded. I haven't hunted there in about 5 years. However there is definetly a crowd there, but the crowd is there for a reason. I have had a few hunts there when it was good with 60 greenheads killed in a hunt.

I wouldn't go there without a boat even though there is a wade in area. Camping is okay, but I normally stay in Stutgart for the enviorment. Those souped up 25 HP Tohatsus are the motor for out there as there is the 25 restriction. Hope that helps. Also don't be afraid to make a lazy mans hunt. Get out there about 8 am listen for who is wearing them out, let them finish and get out of the woods and hunt their hole. Just don't go swipe it from them the next morning.
