Charlie Hanigriff made a good point about Les using the fullback position to train his next starting tailbacks. I heard many people on here basically giving up on Hilliard as a tailback. The more I thought about Hilliard as a tailback the more I realized he is a Les Miles style of back. He is a north and south battering ram. He is perfect for what Les is looking for. It would not surprise me if your next tailback after Ford/Ware was Hilliard.

I thought the same thing tonight watching the LSU / MSU replay. He did the same thing with Hester, Charles Scott and Ware.

If Ware got injured, I think Hilliard's carries would increase more than anyone not named Ford. He is the heir apparent to the Big Back role. Right now he looks like a Wisconsin RB though. He could stand to drop a few lbs.

Hilliard was such a great RB in HS. Didn't have good lines at Patterson and still was a workhorse. He fits the style Miles likes perfect and I could definitely see him being the power back in the future. Him playing FB is just a way to get him on the field faster right now. Once Ware/Ford leave, the backfield will open up more for him.

I've honestly never thought about this and it makes a lot of sense. Hilliard just needs to lose a few lbs to get a little quicker and he'll be good.

Miles has already said he's using the FB spot to ease him in. He said it preseason.

I don't remember Scott getting FB snaps early in his career. I know he got them late in his career.

I think Hilliard will be a disappointment. I really wish him the best but I think he will be one of the player lost in the wash.

This is an excellent concept. It will help improve his vision also and he'll have a better understanding on reading the defense presnap.

I think that will be Magee. I don't think Hilliard has that burst to be the feature tailback. Scott, Ridley, Ware--though none of them really had breakaway speed, they hit top speed before they got to the LOS. I don't see that with Hilliard. But granted, he has had very limited carries.

How does playing fullback help your vision?

Watching vids of Hilliard playing in high school I thought he tried to bounce things to the outside too much. I think with him play FB, it will help him understand more how holes open up and to be more patient as a runner, to set up your blocks better. Again, this is all my opinion.

Right now Lattimore, probably the best back in the country, is a master at this.

A fullback does not have time to be patient and let blocks be set up. He generally slams the first whole that opens up. While I have no problem with him at fullback it will not make him a patient runner.

When he's moved back to RB and understands what the Oline and fullback in front of him are doing, he will be.

You know this in your capacity as the RB coach perhaps?

Or perhaps you are a professional evaluator for RBs?

Please cease your illogical insinuations based on your feeble attempts at analyses based on a small and limited sample set.
