I have to say I am not a fan of it. I understand the typical "third down back". I believe a RB needs it's touches to get into the rhythm of the game. Sharing the ball with 3 backs is tough.

eh.. kind of torn on the idea.
On one hand, in theory, it should help us have a healthy and fresh running back in on every play. Plus, you can have a special RB with certain functions... just like you would treat your wide recievers. i.e. Sproles with outside runs and pitches, Thomas on inside screens, Ingram pounding between the hash marks.

On the other. Those specialty positions kind of lessen the defense having to guess the play. Also, I agree that many running backs ground and pound the first two quarters and then turn it on in the third.

I guess i'm fine with either way as long as our RB's stay healthy so we don't have to pick up Tiki Barber bfore the playoffs.

I dont like it at all, but I do understand it. It makes a lot of since with the rate of injuries in the NFL now. It's not sexy at all, but it is effective.

It does feel like the defense knows what you are going to do. For example:

Ingram: Run up the middle
PT: Screen Pass
Sproles: Pass

By screen pass I mean the intentional ones, not the ones where he checks down to a RB.

This is playcalling, though. Ingram can catch and do screens as well. He's probably not the screen back PT is, not as shifty, but once he gets used to playing in the NFL I promise you the playbook will open up more with Ingram in. He's not a 1-dimensional, between the tackles only guy like Ivory.

I'm not really for or against the 3 headed monster. It helps keep our guys fresh throughout a game, and if we find the hot hand we can ride it. But at the same time, some RBs are good for just pounding the defense into submission and then breaking off big ones in the end.

What the hell would be in the backfield besides a male football player?

No, I feel ya. I just posted this in another thread about how we have a good stable of running backs, but getting no more than 2 consecutive touches in a game is not gonna get them going.

I'm not a fan of the way SP is handling it right now. He's not letting any of the backs develop amy rhythm. PT rips off a good 8yd run and he comes right out the game and then Ingram gets the next carry (5 passes later of course).

Either PT or Bell was the primary back depending on health. One of them got the lion's share of the carries and the run plays were more rhythmic and not so sporadic.

I'm a huge fan, because EVERYTHING in the NFL is a package, and you want to be able to utilize and maximize all of your players' talents while exploiting your opposition's weaknesses.

I can see how people who obsess over fantasy football and in general don't understand the intricacies of the game wouldn't like it, however.

Not when you only call certain plays for certain backs. Seems that when Ingram is in the game teams play run and key on him. With Thomas they play more straight up.

It's about to become a 4 person committee when Ivory Gets Back. One of these guys could be tradebate. Next Years draft is mighty thin for Saints.

we just need to mix it up with each runningback...we can do the plays that are obvious with each one every time...keep em on their toes!
