Legal analyst Tim Meche noted, "This case is a hot potato that no prosecutor really wants to handle."

He says the district attorney likely wants to see this case go away.

"Nothing would make him happier than to have an independent, unbiased grand jury make the decision that it's not a case worth going forward," Meche said.

Whatever happens, he doesn't expect it to take long. "Conceivably Jordan Jefferson could be cleared by next week."

For most. There are few who will be around shortly to reconvene.

While true, it is interesting to hear a legal professionals opinion on the matter.

'Duh' of the century. It's a no-win scenario for a guy elected to office.

Another question for you Antonio, if you don't mind (and others in the "know").

What happens if the grand jury does not indict Jefferson? Could he still be charged with a lesser offense, or is there some type of "double jeopardy" that comes into play?

I'm sure there is aways a chance of this going to Civil Court. My questions are regarding the criminal side of this issue.

If memory serves me correctly, double jeopardy does not attach to grand jury proceedings. I don't practice criminal law so I really can't remember

The DA can file a bill of information. However, that is EXCPETIONALLY unlikely in this case.

There is no double jeopardy at this stage,

This is really a simple situation at this point for the DA and for Coach Miles. If the grand jury doesn't indict, the case is over. The DA can credibly say that Jefferson was treated like anyone else. If the grand jury returns an indictment, Jefferson is gone for the season and will be focused on his criminal defense.

Either way, Jefferson won't be back this weekend.

Tricky question.

The GJ can charge him with a lesser offense.

If the GJ no bills the charge, technically double jeopardy would not attach. But there is zero chance that the DA would reinstitute charges in this case.

Civil matters have no bearing on double jeopardy or criminal charges.

Hillar Moore is about as sorry and worthless as they come in my opinion. Take the case and look at the facts. BOOM..no case...Josh and Jordan Walk.

But the civil suit would be almost assuredly filed immediately. And Miles and JJ will be dealing with that through football season. So, this doesnt 'go away' with the grand jury.
