Like nearly every team we've fielded over the past 7 seasons, this LSU team lacks the ability to separate from their opponent. They did it against Oregon, but O turned the ball over several times. If teams don't turn the ball over, our offense isn't designed to score points quickly and create early significant leads.

What this means is that every quality opponent we face will still be in the game in the 4th quarter, and that scares me. It means we can dominate a game and still lose on a fluke (see nearly every Arkansas game we've lost). It also means that we're not designed for a come back. If we get down by two touchdowns, I'm not at all confident that we can overcome that kind of deficit.

This defense is so much fun to watch, and the offense is improved, but I'm still concerned that this team will get caught by a lesser team because of the reasons mentioned above. Thoughts?

As long as Miles is here, this will be how it is. Crowton stated in an interview last week that this is how LSU's game plan is set up. Keep and the game close and wear them down in the 4th.

I don't like it either but that how it is. Just keep winning and I won't care.

BTW this is not a hate Miles post. I support Les Miles. He's a winner.

You worry too much. All we need to do is turn field goals into touchdowns like we did against Oregon and we throttle State. I'm not ready to say that we "can't" get separation.

Wait and see. Our defense forces turnovers. Don't get all "sky is falling" just yet. We've faced some stiff competition early in the season. The offense is finding a groove. JL was 21/27. Not bad at all.

which is what makes them a "quality" opponent

Well since the Oregon offense was so nice and just handed us the ball four times, our defense didn't force any of them did they? .

Yeah, this is all wrong. Do you really think that LSU is not trying to score on every drive?

LSU destroyed Miss. St. State had 6 yards of offense in the second half until that final drive.

We made them quit. They pulled Relf and put in the back up to just try and do something different.

Yes, it was only a 13 point win, but State had no chance of coming back. We pulled away.

Me thinks you expect us to blow every opponent out early so you can maybe leave the game early??

LSU does what they need to do to win. It isn't sexy, but it's effective. I believe that they can score a little more quickly than you believe, they just haven't had to. Les coaches like he's playing chess, and all you have to do is look at his W/L record to see that he's pretty damned good at it.

Didnt Lee and Randle have a couple 40 yd pass completions?? Do you not think we could do that if we desired more frequently??? Its CLM game plan, we get Wing back in punting and all is well, pin em deep.... Let the D stop em, and the O is doing fine... Now, go take your perceived weakness and put it in your panties..

That is Miles' coaching style, grind your opponent into submission. LSU won't separate, but they also won't get blown out either.

This shite is so stupid. In Alabama's undefeated run in '09 they squeaked out a win against a Tennessee team that had no business being on the same field as Alabama. In Auburn's run last year they barely got by MSU, Clemson, Kentucky & Alabama. At the end of the year they were both called the same thing...... champions. Our MSU game was NEVER in doubt. Even tied at 6 I never felt like MSU had a chance with the way that defense was playing. People need to chill the frick out around here sometimes.

I for one DO like the close games. Much more fun to watch. If only being able to pull away in 66% of our games is our weakness, I'd say our strength is Chief's half time adjustments. Not one team has put together an effective second half yet, and it's because of our defense. Even when the cheating arse Bulldogs had some momentum in the third, our defense kept handling business until the bullshite's offense didn't have a want to win anymore.
