Can LSU play catch up?

I'm very confident in the outcome of Saturday's game.

That said, I think the key to WVU winning is getting up on us early. Our gameplan has been to keep the game close until the 4th quarter, when our depth simply wears the other team out and we are able to take advantage of exhaustion/mistakes to score.

If WVU gets up 10 or 14 points on us early using trick/one time plays, can you see our offense bringing us back into the game?

I think early defense will be the key to our season. We all know we have more stamina than the teams we will be facing. Its the first quarter that worries me.

I'll take our chances at having to play "catch up" versus a team having a chance at "getting up on us early" by anything much over a touchdown -- especially WVU.

So, I guess you can count me as a 'yes.'

This offense is better and more diverse than last season, so yes.

Not sure about the offense, but I KNOW the defense can get us back into the game.

I was thinking about this after the game Thursday. Les's offense seems more suited to work with a lead. So far we've not been tested at all but thats probably my one worry about this team. We've been very conservative and never been pressed to get in the endzone.

I am not worried about our passing game in catch up mode. Lee has been smart with the ball and accurate.

We have an offense this season. Yes, we can come back if needed

You forget that J. Lee has in fact led the all time biggest comeback in LSU History (vs. Troy).

I could never forget freezing my arse off

Like I said, I think we win this one. But going forward, I think the weakness teams will have to exploit (if you can even call this hypothetical a weakness) is getting up early and rattling our offense.

Could altitude be a problem? The Steelers won't let Ryan Clark play in Denver because he almost died after a game from altitude sickness.

This team hasn't had to REALLY play from behind yet so thats a test yet to come.

I think you're right about the offensive game management. I'm just not comfortable with our scoring ability right now. we played a beaten-ed up MS team by Auburn. Auburn scored 34 points with 37 pass attempts. we scored 19 with 27 pass attempts. Not good! we should have scored more points Thursday with our fresh physical advantage. I think we need to be up from the start by at least 14. I was not impressed with our O and at times was frustrated with the 3 points and not closing the TD.

Just numbers - but they tell alot :

If it's an early lead, no reason to panic. Pound them and make them pay when they overload. I think Ware and Ford could both see 20 plus carries vs. that 3-3-5.

I won't be worried or expecting a change in game plan unless we are down by 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. If that happens and we are forced to air it out more I won't be as confident but I will never be without hope. There is always a chance Lee will make a mistake but I think he has an equal chance to make a big play. All it would take is one big play for us to get back in a game to where we can go back to our original game plan.

ETA: One other thing to think about is if a team is up on us (especially if it is late or by a good bit) they will start running the ball to run the clock out. If we're putting 7 or 8 in the box with man coverage that's gonna result in a lot of 3 and outs against our D.

Our qb just went 21 of 27 vs an sec defense and has led lsu to 4th quarter victories plenty of times.

I feel like we have played very conservative on offense as of yet. I am very confident with our ability to pass the ball when needed. However, I think Miles' game plan is to just go with the ground and pound until you make him throw the ball. No need to take unnecessary chances when you have a dependable defense.

I don't think their offense will be any more dynamic than Oregon's
