Food Plot Planting
Posted by Funreaux on 9/17/11 at 6:09 pm00
Anybody else put their seed in today? I'm crossing my fingers that this 60% chance on Monday does the trick...

The soil at my place is still powder, were gonna wait a few more weeks. I don't want to waste any money.

We planted today. Almost caused a fight. Guy didn't buy enough fertilizer so instead of doing a few good plots I was out voted and they put 50 to 75lbs of fertilizer per acre.

We planted about half of ours today. Gonna wait until at least next week on the others or maybe first weekend in Oct. Had good moisture but hopefully we can get at least a half inch or better this week.

I tilled a small plot (1/8 acre) and it was a damn dust storm. We have had less than a 1/2" of rain on the lease over the last 6 months. I think I am going to wait until we get at least 2 inches of rain prior to even getting seed in the ground.
I may be planitng nothing but turnips and rye if the rain is too late and might not plant anything at all if the drought is continued.

Word from many of my friends in Texas was not good. Numerous ranches aren't seeing any fawns, and are really concerned that the drought has taken it's toll on this entire Freshmen class... Scary stuff.

Might as well have just taken that money and lit it on fire... What a waste.

many ranches are finding dead deer, small game, cattle, horses, and donkeys.
the county I live in is having difficulty with people intentionally releasing donkeys they can not pay to feed anylonger and all of our hay is now coming out of South Dakota and Alabama.
There is going to be a huge predator population this year.

I've seen dust devils sucking ours up every time I've been out there now. But if dorcheat floods, I'm gonna have some hellacious duck hunting.

That's exactly what I tried to tell them. Next time I'll buy it all myself and won't give them any say in it

We've got pictures of two donkeys roaming free on our lease and eating corn. Not sure about what were going to do about them.

Lol at the donkeys. There must be a wild population of them going around. Had one show up in my yard last year and a neighbor had 3 show up in his a few weeks ago
