Hopefully this will stop the removal of non-producing wells and keep our habitat intact.

From this i can't see how any of them would meet the requirements of removal

" The Rigs to Reefs Habitat Protection Act would not allow platforms to be removed until an assessment has been completed to determine whether there are coral populations or other protected species in the vicinity of the platform, and to identify any species that have recreational or commercial value. If it is determined that there is a substantial reef ecosystem around the structure, the decommissioning of the platform will be halted until it can be determined that removing it would not harm the reef ecosystem."

I like. BTW, CCA has been a big part of the lobby for this. Let the bashing begin...

Say what you want about him, but he supports the agenda of most on this board, meaning he supports the outdoorsman.

I really can't believe he weathered the scandal storm either!

There's too much money in the fishing industry to remove the habitat...

P&A's and Salvage work is really one of the only things keeping the O&G service companies afloat right now......could you imagien if they took that away?? Do you realize how many jobs would be lost and the hit the economy would take. It's bad enough we're still feeling the effects of the moratorium as a result of the oil spill.../

Plus this P&A work and decomissioning and removals is mandated by the Feds...good luck getting them to budge on this.....

I applaude Vitter for trying to push this through but he better watch who's toes he's stepping on

I just got the email from Rok about this earlier

He added this tid bit:
quote:

CCA is taking all the credit for all our hard work, but as Al Walker says, "we don't care who gets the credit, as long as platform removal is stopped."

Thank you, Senator Vitter!!! Would you join us at the Save the Blue Gala at the Aquarium of the Americas? See attached:

Federal government should have no role in spending money or forcing private industry to spend money to help a select number of rich outdoors men.

1st off, this helps the marine life itself. From overpopulated species to endangered species.
2nd, what about charter and commercial fisherman? Louisiana tourism?
3rd, don't be jelly

It's totally win-win. Oil companies save money on removal, critters keep valuable habitat, which helps out tourism/fishing by creating habitat where none was before. Giving CCA props on this one.

I guess you could argue that some jobs lost due to not removing the whole thing, but rec fishing dollars way exceed that.

Not my cup of tea, but what about cutting the top off of the rig to leave the reef structure intact and placing the top on the ocean floor to create a new reef.

You get rid of the "rusting eyesore," keep some of the jobs and actually increase the reef structures?
