Minecraft patch 1.8

Here are the main highlights of the 1.8 update:
Endermen are rare (YAY!) and die in water.
Zombies now drop rotten flesh (Not feathers)
All the tame mobs will drop meat except sheep and once killed will not respawn in that area.
XP will be used for levelling up. You get XP from killing mobs and lose it when you die.
Food is stackable but eating now takes time and has an animation.
Larger, and new biomes.
Added watermelons and made them (and pumpkins) farmable
Added towns, they might have NPCs (Jeb wants them to talk, Notch doesn't)
Strongholds near villages.
Added brightness slider, the deeper down you go the darker it gets. Torches held in your hand may emit light now.
New lighting system, much faster. Improved chunk generation speeds.
Exploring will be more rewarding.
Double-tap W to sprint/run.
Combat has been revamped, it is more rewarding.
- Sprinting toward a mob and attacking throws them back.
- Jumping and attacking scores a critical hit
- Bows now have a new animation with varing firing levels.
Added an animation to bows.
Added a creative mode in which you can fly and spawn items.

Me too. Checked out some gameplay on youtube, and the npc villages look good.

Any chance we can get the TD server back up and running? I will do it if someone can coach me on how to do it. Does it cost anything and what sort of network requirements are there?

I could be tempted to bring it back online if and only if there is enough demand for it (especially as SMP is so much more developed now). At least 10-15 players.
It is going to be more locked down though. Will NOT be open. You will have to be a TD member for at least 3 months and I will open up access indivdueally through the minecraft authinticaion servers.
Just not enough people online to be able to continually police the server, and we had a problem with malicious vandalism last time.
(I threw in malicious to seperate myself and accidentially creating a volcano wildfire that got out of control not far from a wooden fortress someone built )

Haha, that's why I try to steer clear of wood. We had an awesome village on that server. And then the attacks sucked.
I would hop on a few times a week. I always wished we could hce gotten into the economic stuff. If I didn't want to dig up diamond maybe I could buy some from another player

It was somewhat hilarious at first.
I put down a lava source on a platform I had built in the sky with my admin powers and played around with it.
And then later on was playing with TNT for the first time.
Accidentally activated it when I was intenting to pick up the block.
the resulting explosion comprosmised the containment of the lava source, and it started to flow in a rapidly expanding waterfall.
There was a cold sink of realization and then a oh frick oh frick oh frick and I jumped down trying to contain the blaze.

The game has come a long way. I want to try some things with pistons. E piston elevators are amazing.

I once made Helms Deep and after putting in around 14 hours, decided it looked like shite. I haven't played minecraft since.
