So my wife decided to ask for my truck keys after supper last night then proceeded to drive us to Academy. She told me to pick out a handgun (bless her heart) and go ahead and buy it (my birthday's coming up). Now, I generally prefer to buy my guns from locals face to face or during sales, but she was dead set on just getting it NIB and being there for some reason.

Anyway, I've been kicking around the XDM's and settled on the .40 (felt better in my hand than the .45). So I fill out the NICS form and expect to be out in 20 minutes with another toy.

But wait, not so fast my friend! Computer came back with a hold on the sale. WTF? Now granted I haven't bought a handgun from retail in about 2 years, but I've never had it come back a hold. I'm wondering if it was due to the holiday, or if someone else with my kinda uncommon name is on the naughty list somewhere.

Anyone else had problems this weekend?

I get flagged everytime. I have been told by some it's because I hold DoD clearances but some people say that isnt the reason. They always call me 2 days later and tell me to come get my gun.

When I bought my Mosin-Nagant a month or so ago, it was held up for some kind of further research but still approved during the same phone call. Guy selling it said that earlier he had someone whose sale was put on hold. He said it just seems to come in cycles.

Ok, good to know it's not just me. Had me worried they found out about all those dead bodies in my back yard.

Thinking about it more, when I got put on hold I was young, just turned 21. Being that yours was labor day weekend, if you're not young, might be the reason. When I worked at Academy they never told us why people got put on hold, wish they would've though.

See, now I'm back to FML. First time it's happened to me.

Y'all build me up just to tear me down.

It could be anything, speeding tickets, arrests, dui's, similar name to someone with a bad record, couldn't find your name immediately, moved recently, etc.

Several people get put on hold, just to be called a day or two later.

28, not my first purchase, 9 years military (doubt that matters). No telling why. Just surprised me when he said it, I thought he was talking to the guy behind me.

Yea I'm not a felon so I'm not worried about it. I was just ready to make fruit salad XDM style today and pissed I couldn't.

Guess I'll just do it M&P style instead.

Could be an abnormal influx of background checks due to the sales tax holiday. Just a guess.

When I was in the Army, I got a hold every single time. As soon as I got out, I stopped getting them. There is your definitive proof that it has something to do with the security clearances.

I always get delayed but last weekend i bought an hk45c and the guy at the shop told me not to list my social if i usually do. Sure enough, no hold without the social.
