Just left the DMV (getting a trailer for a GoDevil put in my name). After the process, the lady reminded me that I must get an inspection sticker for the trailer. She said it is required for any and all trailers on the road (boat, atv, utility etc).

I know that there is a crackdown on faulty lights and expired tags, but this is the first i have heard of this ever.

What says the OB?

Did you build the trailer? Thats the only inspection I know of, where you bring your receipts and all to LSP and they inspect it and all that jazz.

She is correct. But I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for it.

No I didn't build it, but she claims it is required for all trailers on an annual basis. I inquired about this requirement with some old timers at my office who mentioned that they have known of this requirement but rarely do it. With the recent crackdown on trailer compliance I would guess that this is something that might be checked if you were to be stopped.

Don't drive through Chatham, La. They WILL give you a ticket for this. I bet they funded their whole town budget just through those tickets over the last few year during hunting season. I don't pull a trailer hunting, but I bet I heard of twenty people that got a ticket their last year.

yep, i guess it could, but, on several trips back and forth from hunting, camp, or wherever, I've been stopped and they have never asked to see the trailer inspection...knock on wood..

That's the part that scares me......DMV said it was the same $ fine as not having your vehicle inspected....which i've heard is in the $150+ range......

Yes you are required to get one but I bet less than 1% of trailers have them. If you get it done you will get a sticker just like the one that goes on your car windshield. Dont't take off the backing but do staple it to your registration.

The local cop is a retired DMV He has a hard one for stuff like that plus he is a dick about small stuff.

I have never had a trailer inspected nor will I ever. I think that's just more bullshite for the state to collect money.

My boat trailer has never been registered in LA. It has no plate. I tried twice but the local title place gave me a hard time and said i had to show them that it was registered in FL (Where I bought it). I tried but could not get info from FL DMV.

Got pulled over for speeding from Venice and Cop said nothing of it.

Also I have a large covered trailer that has no plate. Though I have only used it 3x since Katrina.
