to go pro in baseball?

I just heard on ESPN that Carl Crawford with the Red Sox had and offer to be an option QB at Nebraska and a point guard offer from UCLA. That is just amazing.

I'm know plenty others have been in this situation.

Brett Gardner?
The Uptons?

Wasn't Crawford 1st team all-state in all 3 sports in high school?

In the state of Texas no less.

Joe Mauer was the best QB recruit in the nation. Committed to Florida State.

His decision to go pro in baseball probably altered FSU's fortunes for the better part of the next decade.

Mike Hampton turned down a full ride to FSU as a DB.

The story goes that someone in the braves clubhouse was bragging about being the fastest guy in MLB and Hampton looked at him and said you aren't even the fastest person in this room. He then dusted the guy in a footrace. I forgot what player it was.

I think he was committed to Clemson to play football and baseball.

Gardner walked on his college team, fwiw

Neil Walker for the Pirates has a scholarship offer from PSU to play safety, but the Buccos took the home town kid in round one

Wasn't Adam Dunn a legit QB coming out of hs or am I thinking of someone else?

Correct. I just can't see him playing football though. His hair would get too fricked up.

Yep. I know he had a scholarship offer to Nebraska to either be a wing back or an option QB. Forget which one.

Todd Helton and Seth Smith of the Rockies were both back up QBs in the SEC.
