Are we certain these charges originated from a grand jury?

They haven't been to a grand jury. I'd be surprised if the DA dumped a high profile case like this. It will be brought to the grand jury and the burden will be put on them, IMO.

Often with cases of this high profile nature, the DA will take it to the GJ, where only they get to present evidence, there is no cross-ex, and no outside attorneys. When the evidence is presented (usually weakly) then you can blame the GJ for the no charge. Happens more often than it should, I would guess.

I've been saying this to everyone around Charlotte that's asked me about this situation. This would be so risk to bring to a trial because there is so much room for doubt.

I just can't understand why the police dug so hard on a case that was never going to go anywhere even if they were able to make an arrest.

They should have just charged them with disorderly off the bat and been done with it.

If they do go to court and are aquitted, I would contersue if I was Jefferson for damages to my future earnings due the ending of my college football career.

If he made a team as a WR for one year the rookie scale minimum is about $350k. That argument could definitely be made in court.

Generally charges are filed and then the case is presented to grand jury at a later date. Usually within a week of arrest and arraignment.

The felony charge will never stick. That will be dropped IMO.

Injury + Video + Witness + Trace evidence = Accept

Then expect some sort of plea arrangement.

I doubt every seriously there was a grand jury involved.

However, I'll be that the Police Chief consulted with the DA before issuing the warrant.

DA has already seen the evidence and is convinced he will get a conviction, otherwise they wouldnt have gone through all the trouble.

I would be very, very surprised if the BRPD made these arrests without running it by the DA office first.
