What can DNA prove in this case?
Posted by tc5140 on 8/25/11 at 9:12 am00
We know JJ was there. We know he was involved in the scuffle to some degree. If the second degree battery is for a kick resulting in a back injury, how does his DNA prove or disprove anything? I would think the DNA would be evidence only if he said he was no where near the fight.
I know some had said he was the peacemaker and some say he did the kicking. Unless he has a piece of the guys vertebrae on his shoe this seems over the top.
My guess posted from this discussion: The DNA proves the shoe that belonged to JJ. Also confirm it was the shoes wore at the bar/fight. The kick doing the damage had to be in the shirt area of the victim. If the confirmed shoes have shirt fibers gilty. If they do not innocent. Any kick that hard had to leave the shirt evidence on the shoe. Anybody have something else?

It is puzzling.

They took Jefferson's DNA.

Blood on the shoe/lower pants leg.
Fibers from the guy's clothes/guy's blood on JJ's shoe?
Maybe JJ's (or whomever's) shoe can be traced to the guy's shirt where he was kicked, like a footprint or residue or something from the bottom of the shoe?
Seems like a stretch to me.
ETA I do not understand the need for JJ's DNA, but the police probably know more information than us and are just covering their bases.

Yea I'm drawing a blank on JJ's DNA. I could understand the shoe thing.
I still cannot believe we are talking about DNA testing for a goddamn bar fight.

You mean the blood that dripped from the dude's face onto JJ's shoe while he was trying to break up the fight?

If Jefferson has blood, hair, skin tissue, or anything else that contains DNA from one or more of the alleged victims, on his clothes or shoes, it definitely places him at the scene of the incident. It also indicates that he was in very close proximity to the alleged victim.

What if JJ said I never touched that dude but his blood shows up on the marines shirt

He's already admitted being at the scene.

Meh. "Close" is a pretty subjective term.

I was wondering this myself. It's not like you are trying to prove or disprove JJ being on premises at all. We know he was at shady's. so there is some DNA somewhere. Unless JJ has a bloody hand and they want to match it to the kids shirt (doubtful) then the means for DNA testing are absurd.
THIS WAS A GOD DAMN BAR FIGHT. We aren't tracking down a f'n serial killer. What a waste of my tax dollars.

If Jefferson's blood shows up in anywhere, it is evidence that he was battered.
Again, gets no where near determining who the kicker was.

JJ's blood? I didn't think JJ was hurt - definitely not bad enough to bleed on the guy who's arse he allegedly stomped (literally or figuratively....)
