If according to multiple sources including former players, that it is a tradition going back decades to jump the last meaningless curfew, and party, then why don't the coaches do away with it so the players are not forced to break the rules to repeat tradition?

A 10:30 curfew on a night when there is no practice the next day does sound pretty early.

Then there wouldn't be a tradition of breaking curfew.

I think it's in place to avoid this exact situation. As the cliche goes, not much good happens at that time of night.

Isn't it more likely that it caused it? They could have gone out to the same place and stayed late the next night "legally", with less peer pressure and an earlier start time than 11 pm, but what fun would that have been.

are you serious?!? curfews are in place to avoid situations like this... and if something like this happened and there was no curfew in place, I'd bet my post count that you'd be the first one to run to this website and say 'why isn't there a curfew in place for student athletes'

My point is that it is a curfew which is deliberately broken every year as a tradition, and removing it for that one night might be a positive thing.

quote:

The players were out after a curfew imposed by the coaching staff when the fight took place. However, LSU athletics spokesman Michael Bonnette said players traditionally conclude fall camp, which this year ended last Thursday, by socializing together after curfew. Bonnette said that tradition has spanned the tenures of a number of coaches.
