quote:

White said investigators would be further along if there was more evidence rather than speculation and conflicting reports. "If we had conclusive evidence where we had video tape from an iPhone or something of that nature, it wouldn't be necessary [to investigate further]. We would go ahead and draw up the warrants and arrest the football players and book them," White said.

A competent lawyer will have a field day with that statement.

They were obviously involved in a fight. To what extent, only they know. But since only the alleged victims are talking, of course he has his mind up. That's what happens when you hear only one side of the story.

Yes, it's SHOCKING that the police chief said that if they had VIDEO evidence of the event they would arrest people.

Good Lord.

How so? Does one not issue a warrant if conclusive evidence against existed?

Whole article doesn't quite paint that picture, but that statement in particular was poorly worded and can easily be misconstrued.

Really, thousands are people are arrested in Red stick every year. Video evidence is available in almost none of those cases. Evidence used most often, victim statements and evidence.

You mean, they would charge people if they actually had evidence, which, according to this statement, they don't right now?

What a non-statement.

it just seems one sided...not "if there were video evidence we'd know what happened", he sounds ready to arrest players

As a whole I agree with you and that taken out of context the quote is misleading; however, he didn't say arrest people, he said players. Though unlikely, he could be arresting the "victims" if evidence comes about that they started the fight.

I don't believe he has taken sides and believe it is just a poorly worded statement that the rantards have obviously run with.

Someone that doesn't know what the "prisoner's dilemma" is.
