I want to software mod my bedroom Wii to watch movies on a flash drive. Tired of moving my PS3 back & forth from the living room. We use both exclusively for Netflix, but of course they don't stream a lot of movies.

From everything I've researched, it seems exploitations were found in a couple of games to be able to load Homebrew Channel. Then use Mplayer to watch movies on DVD, SD Card, or (my preference) USB Flash Drive.

My question is: Is it absolutely necessary that I have one of those games and if so, where can I rent one in Baton Rouge?

Thanks in advance.

lego indiana jones or Super smash brothers brawl are the only ones you can use to break through system menu version 4.3. you got anymore questions? my wii is all softmodded out and i've installed a linux kernal(which was useless) in it.

A new exploit for firmware 4.3 is out, and no disc is required. It's called LetterBomb:

If you are on firmware 4.0-4.2, use BannerBomb. There is a nice guide on Wiihacks

wiimc is really good. DVD compatible if you have an older wii(they changed DVD drives last year that disabled playing DVD movies). Don't be stupid and install and love priiloader so you don't brick your wii. everything about the wii is really easy, it just takes some patience to learn.
