Does anyone think the 16 number that we hear about related to every superconference is because at 16 teams, a group of conferences could legitimately negociate 3 bcs bids per conference instead of 2?

I have been wondering why certain conferences would have the incentive to grow to this "16" number and I could see the gaining of an additional bcs bid being a potential motivator

I think you would have to have one BCS conference go away, and add a fifth BCS game.

Then there would have to be a stipulation that all 3 teams are in the top 12. And a 3rd team cant go unless all BCS conferences have two. And a third team cant go if they are behind a non-BCS team in the BCS.

Thats the only way a conference with 12, or non-BCS schools would allow it, imo.

Basically, assuming there are only 5 BCS conferences, and all have two teams to get to 10 BCS bowl teams, then 1 non-BCS and a third team can go.

Something like that.

Yeah, I was thinking if we ended up with 4 16 team conferences and 5 bcs games plus the championship game it would work out well. And I would just say any team in top 12 from a bcs conference could an invite. If the sec has 2 teams in the top 12, they both should be eligible for an invite even if the ACC has no teams in the top 12 and thus only their conference champion would make it
Mid majors would get an invite if they were in the top 12 and there were slots to fill.

Another thing I could see a group of 16 team conferences doing is petition the NCAA for a 13 game regular season, thus allowing these conferences to play 10 game conference schedules, bringing even more money to each conference

Add the Cotton bowl and have it be possible for a BCS Conference to send 3 teams.

Probably more like 18 to 20.

4 20 team conferences.

The winner from each play in a playoff for the National Title. You can even at 4 wild cards if you like.

The Sub-division teams....those not in the 80 teams play for their own National Title.

So you're for affirmative action in BCS bowl games?

I say if teams are ranked high enough, they should go. frick the rest.
